Found December 17, 2008 on Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
Derek Lowe is one of the highly tauted free agents starting pitchers on the market that remains unsigned. The Yankees, Phillies had tossed their hat in the pursuit over Lowe but now that has dwindled because the Yankees have inked Sabathia and Burnett to large deals and the Phillies yesterday signed Jamie Moyer and Chan Ho Park to deals as well.

The Mets would love to add Lowe to a rotation that already has Santana, Pelfrey, Maine and possibly Niese but the price created by Scott Boras remains too high for even the Mets taste. It has been reported that Lowe is seeking a 4 year deal worth between $60-64 Million.

The main concern with teams is he is 36 and many can't figure giving that type of money to a older player. Lowe has been consistent and durable pitching 200 innings or more in the past 6 out of 7 seasons. The Mets can use him to eat innings and preserve the pen, but I don't think the Mets are willing to shell out 15-16 Million per season on him.

Lowe has said that it's not all about the money, but it's about being on a winning team. We heard that from a lot of players, but is he sincere in saying that because if that was the case he would of signed already!

Lowe made $10 Million dollars last year, he is a career 126-107 with a 3.75 ERA in a 11 year career.
