Last week, Arizona outfielder Justin Upton, the jewel of the trade market and a potentially franchise altering player, rejected a trade to the Seattle Mariners  The Mariners were one of just a handful of teams on the list of places that Upton could reject a trade to and he exercised that contractual right. Why would the Mariners, a relatively well run franchise with a top 3 pitcher, a beautiful stadium that just became more hitter friendly in a nice city with good fans, be on Upton’s no trade list? For that manner, why do the Mariners have such trouble luring free agents, mostly hitters but really all free agents, into the Great Northwest? My theory? Geography. Specifically  the distance from Seattle to every other major league city.  The two closest cities to Seattle with major league teams are Denver, with the Rockies, and San Francisco with the Giants and A’s. The Rockies are about 1020 miles from Seattle and the Giants and A’s are more than 680 miles away. That means that every ...

Mets Rumors: New York Interested in Diamondbacks’ Justin Upton

The New York Mets are once again interested in Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton, but it is a “longshot” that the team will give up enough prospects to acquire the slugger, according to Marc Carig of Newsday. Sources say the Mets are again interested in trading for Justin Upton. But it's a longshot that they'll give up enough prospects for a deal. —...

He’s no Justin Upton but how about Michael Morse for the Mets?

The offensive pipe dream for the Mets this offseason has been to swing a trade for Justin Upton. Now that we’ve seen what the parameters for an Upton deal might be from the vetoed deal with the Mariners, it’s way past time to move on to a more realistic target. Recently, another righty hitting power outfield bat was put on the market when the Nationals re-signed Adam LaRoche...

Is Justin Upton worth acquiring for the Mets?

He’s No. 10 on the Arizona Diamondbacks, but No. 1 on wish lists throughout baseball. Justin Upton continues to be available, according to industry rumors. As Arizona approaches Spring Training with a glut of outfielders, there’s been no shortage of teams inquiring about the potentially budding star, including the Mets. But as high as the demand may be, the price is equally...

Justin Upton: Reviewing Seattle Mariners attempted trade

M’s try for a splash The Mariners hotstove has been quiet since the acquisition of Raul Ibanez a few weeks ago. But things have heated up this week, with MLB Trade Rumors reporting that the M’s made a legitimate attempt at Arizona Diamondbacks rightfielder Justin Upton. The trade seemed like a done deal, until Upton invoked his no-trade clause. This was an interesting development...

Yankees likely to pass on Upton

On Jan. 13, 2012, the Yankees stunned the baseball industry by signing Hiroki Kuroda and acquiring Michael Pineda from Seattle. On Jan. 13, 2013, the Yankees could send a similar thunderbolt with a trade for Arizona outfielder Justin Upton. There's only one problem: They seem strangely reluctant to do so. The Yankees' newfound mantra of fiscal responsibility - a $189 million...

Mets interested in Justin Upton

According to Marc Craig of Newsday, the New York Mets are once again interested in  Arizona Diamondbacks slugger, Justin Upton, though sources believe it’s a long shot: In a post to Newsday, Craig writes: “The Mets have revived discussions of a trade for the Diamondbacks’ Justin Upton, two people with knowledge of the situation said Friday. However, doubts linger about whether...

Latest Rumblings on Justin Upton and the Mets

Updated by Joe D. on 1/13 at 2:00 PM Validating what I’ve been saying since Friday, Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers said he is in no rush to deal Justin Upton and that he will only move him for a similar or better deal than what he agreed to with the Mariners. That Seattle deal, or should I say non-deal, set the bar for Upton’s value. The fact that Upton invoked his no-trade clause...

Contrary to media reports, Justin Upton likely to stay in Arizona

One of the worst kept secrets in MLB is the Arizona Diamondbacks’ interest in trading outfielder Justin Upton. But one of the seldomly understood points is the fact that General Manager Kevin Towers wants a fortune in return. In other words, he is not so desperate to move Upton, he will settle for a package of players that would not be considered a heist. If there was any doubt...

Mets Source: I Don’t See Us Moving In That Direction (Upton)

Updated by Joe D. on 1/12 at 10:00 AM A team source tells the NY Post: “Those were some big names,” one source said of the deal Upton nixed because Seattle is part of his no-trade clause. “There were some quality arms. I don’t see us moving in that direction if that’s what they’re asking for and almost got.” Like I was saying last night… Updated by Joe D. on 1/11...

D’Backs Want Wheeler, Mets Don’t Match Up In Upton Deal

Updated by Joe D. on 1/15 at 1:30 PM According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks are not a good match for a Justin Upton deal. D’Backs GM Kevin Towers is insisting that he will not lower his trade request for Upton since the deal with the Seattle Mariners evaporated last week. ”I’m not taking less,” Towers said at the Scouts Foundation...

Mets Continue Search for Right Handed Bat in Outfield

Teams around the league are interested in Justin Upton, but Arizona's asking price seems too high for most. (Christian Petersen/Getty Images) In the past week the New York Mets have been linked to several right handed outfield bats, most notably Justin Upton, Mike Morse, and Scott Hairston. While each would fill a huge need for New York, there are significant obstacles to obtaining...

Tigers discussing Porcello with Mariners, DBacks

It isn’t on Justin Upton’s level, but the Rick Porcello trade saga continues … The Detroit Tigers, who have six starting pitchers, have continued to discuss Porcello with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Seattle Mariners and perhaps other teams, according to major-league sources. The Tigers likely would ask for a shortstop, late-inning reliever or right-handed-hitting outfielder in...

Mets Rumors: Mets seeking bargain basement pitchers??

Mets Rumors: The New York Mets have been linked in rumors with outfielder Justin Upton, but the realism is they can't score him without dealing prospects that they just received. The Mets with a glaring hole in their outfield might have to settle on Scott Hairston and give him a two year deal. There has been mention of the Nationals trying to move OF/1B Mike Morse, but the...
