It's not easy being a sea gull.
The feet feel too big, it's hard to see through the beak and the heat is overwhelming. But none of that matters to the fourth- graders from P.S. 86 in Brooklyn, who I am about to race around the base path at KeySpan Park in Coney Island.
They are determined to beat this giant bird if it is the last thing they do.
I am the fifth person trying out to be Sandy the Seagull, the mascot of the Brooklyn Cyclones, a Class A affiliate of the New York Mets.
