Found April 17, 2012 on Mike Silva's New York Baseball Digest:
No matter how well the Mets play on the field it always seems to come down to fans and media types focusing on what happens off-the-field. That is probably what passes the time on Twitter, sells papers or generates internet traffic, hence why the news that the team is planning a tribute to Jose Reyes created some chatter earlier today. Andy Martino of the Daily News quotes a team source that acknowledges the team will honor Reyes with a video tribute on April 24, when Miami opens a 3-game series at Citi Field. On the heels of the news that the team plans to acknowledge Chipper Jones‘ retirement during his final visit to New York, some wonder if it’s appropriate to honor a player that just spurned the organization a few months ago. I think the Mets are doing the right thing for a player that was popular and, regardless of whether you believe he fulfilled his potential or not, was an important part of the teams’ success. The Mets have made similar tributes to returning stars such as M...

Supreme Court Justice rips Mets

In a recent ruling summary, Supreme Court Justice and self-professed Mets fan Elena Kagan took a bit of a shot at her beloved team.

Wright Becomes All Time Mets RBI Leader, But Does That Deserve An Extension?

A team source told Andy Martino of the Daily News that a contract extension for David Wright is not on the “front burner” right now, but added that his gut feeling was that a new contract extension would get done. Today, David Wright eclipsed another franchise record with his three RBI against the Braves this afternoon, tying Darryl Strawberry for the most RBI in Mets history...

Gee, How ‘Bout Those Mets? Two Bombs In 6-1 Win Over Braves

Recap Mets are just spoiling us with all this offense including the homeruns. Ike Davis with a three-run homerun to break the game open, and after Jason Bay robbed the Braves of a homerun, hit one himself deep in center field for a solo shot and an insurance run. Broken fingers seem to be helping the Mets. Dillon Gee had a great start this afternoon allowing only one run on four...

Starting pitching excels early for the 2012 Mets

After 10 games, the Mets are 7-3 and one of the surprise teams in all of baseball. Their record is even more impressive when you consider that they are 6-1 against the Braves and Phillies, two teams which have had their way with the Mets in recent seasons and ones expected to compete for the division title while the Mets were supposed to finish in the basement. But as surprising...

Mets Card of the Week: 1970 Joe Foy

1970 O-PEE-CHEE JOE FOY Editor’s Note: The following article was written in English, and then translated into French using Babel Fish. The resulting French was then translated back into English using the same program. The Editor is still trying to figure out why. C’est la vie… Don’t blame Joe Foy of T. It was right 26, and to come to far one season where he’d led in 71...

Dickey Is Closing In On A Quality Achievement

Shhh.  Don’t tell anyone.  But R.A. Dickey is quietly approaching a few Mets greats in the team’s record books. With last night’s 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, R.A. Dickey recorded his 14th consecutive quality start (minimum of six innings pitched with no more than three earned runs allowed), dating back to last year.  It is currently the longest such streak...

Under The Radar: David Wright is about to have the most RBI in Mets history

Darryl Strawberry had 733 RBI as a member of the New York Mets. David Wright has had 730 RBI as a member of the Mets. David Wright will tie Strawberry’s Mets record any day, and he will probably beat the record that same day or the day after. By the way, David Wright is the Mets’ all-time doubles leader with 281. Ed Kranepool is second with 225. I feel as if the fact that Wright...

Ex-Mets worker gets 5-years' probation

The New York Mets' longtime clubhouse manager has been sentenced to five years of probation. Charlie Samuels admitted in February to having $2.3 million worth of team memorabilia. He pleaded guilty to possessing stolen property and tax fraud. The 55-year-old is also banned from any Mets facility, even if he buys a ticket. The team fired Samuels in 2010. He had worked for the...

Ramirez is struggling...

Photo by Michael BaronIt's only been five appearances but it should be noted that Ramon Ramirez is struggling.  The 30 y/o right hander came over in the Angel Pagan trade and after posting a 2.62 ERA last season, many felt he was the steal of the deal. But since coming to the Mets Ramirez has struggled, he had a bad spring but unlike Rauch and Francisco who turned it on when...

Wright ties Strawberry's RBI record

The weather was lousy. So was R.A. Dickey's knuckleball. Dickey gave up three homers and eight runs in his worst outing in four years, and the New York Mets ended a .500 trip with a 14-6 loss to the Atlanta Braves. There was light rain through the early innings, making it more difficult for Dickey to throw his specialty pitch. ''It's like throwing water balloons...

Braves chase Mets' Santana with five-run second inning

Rookie Tyler Pastornicky belted a two-run double to highlight a five-run second inning and Freddie Freeman also drove in a pair of runs as the host Atlanta Braves posted a 9-3 win over the New York Mets on Tuesday. The victory was Atlanta's first in five tries versus New York this season. Freeman capped an 11-pitch at-bat with an RBI double and Pastornicky scored after advancing...

3 Up & 3 Down: The Road Warrior Edition

The Mets had a pretty successful opening weekend in Philadelphia, beating the Phillies in two out of three games. After nine games, all within the Eastern Division of the National League, the Mets find themselves at 6-3. Not too bad at all. So here are the 3 and 3 from this weekend. 3 Up: It’s All About David: David Wright, broken finger and all, returned to the Met’s line up...
