After a good April and keeping up with A.L. Central leading Detroit Tigers, the Kansas City Royals are 3-3 so far this May. But for the rest of the month, they have a tough schedule. They have a game against the Baltimore Orioles, then they play the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics, Houston Astros, the Angels again, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Texas Rangers. Except for the lowly Astros and struggling Angels, the other teams are above .500 and possible playoff contenders. Despite this month’s 3-3 record, there’s reasons for concern. So far this month, the Royals have six errors, with four of them committed in their two losses against the Orioles. The usually strong Royals bullpen lost a 2-1 decision to the White Sox Monday night and Luke Hochevar‘s errant pickoff throw to first in Tuesday night’s game against the Orioles led to a 4-3 loss. And in four of the six games played this month, the Royals offense scored three or less runs. But it’s not all bad. I...

Tinkering with the Lineup is not Enough for Royals

by John Viril— Kansas City’s three game losing streak has suddenly made the Royals’ lack of offense apparent. The Royals have scored 3 runs or less in 18 of 30 games this season. The team is tied with the Marlins for last in home runs in major league baseball with 19. Overall, the Royals rank 9th in the American League in scoring with 4.26 runs per game. In response to this...

Is it time for Royals to suffle the lineup?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. While the focus the past few days on the Royals, at least by some observers, has been on the team's leaky bullpen and Ned Yost's decision to pull James Shields for Greg Holland in Monday's gut-wrenching loss, there remains a far greater concern for Yost: His toothless offense. It should be agreed that less than 30 games into the season is far too early...

Kansas City Royals – Contenders Or Pretenders?

As a baseball fan watching Kansas City suffer for years, I have to wonder if they are actually a good contender this season for the playoffs, or if this is just their 15 minutes of fame. There is certainly something for Royals’ fans to get excited about right now. At this point in the year, Kansas City is 17-10, when last season at this time they were only 10-20. A dramatic difference...

The Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals have agreed to trade third baseman Brandon Wood from the Royals to the Orioles for cash considerations. Wood will be assigned to their Triple-A Norfolk minor league affiliate. Once considered a top prospect with the Los Angeles Angels, Wood has struggled and now finds himself fighting to stay in the game. The post Baltimore Orioles Acquire...

What caused the Royals power surge? (poll)

by John Viril— On Thursday, Kansas City Royals hitters cracked out 3 home runs and scored 6 times after three frustrating losses in a row—mostly due to anemic offense. The Royals power surge came on a day in which manager Ned Yost shuffled his batting order in a desperate attempt to create more production. The Royals came into their 6-2 victory over Baltimore with only 19 home...

Orioles, Guthrie poised for Camden Yards reunion

Jeremy Guthrie and the Baltimore Orioles are doing just fine without each other. Guthrie lost 60 games over a four-year stretch with the Orioles before being traded to Colorado in February 2012 for pitchers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom. Now he's back in Baltimore for the first time, poised to face his former team Thursday night as a member of the Kansas City Royals. Revenge...

Mendoza, Royals battle Orioles at Camden Yards

(AP) -- Chris Tillman had one of the best performances of his career in his last start. He's also had some of his worst against the Kansas City Royals. Tillman will try to pitch the Orioles to a season-best fourth straight win Wednesday night against the visiting Royals. After going 0-1 with a 7.07 ERA in his first three starts this season, Tillman (2-1, 3.63 ERA) is 2-0 with...
