Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Adam Eaton will miss 6-8 weeks of action with a sprained elbow. It is a tough break for those fantasy owners viewing Eaton as a nice sleeper candidate in the middle of drafts and he had been steadily climbing in mock drafts the last few weeks. The winner in the Diamondbacks outfield is Gerrardo Parra who figures to see 125-150 more at bats than what was originally projected for him. It also creates temporary value for A.J. Pollock who could also be starting in the outfield come opening day if Cody Ross has not yet recovered from his calf injury. The injury pushes Eaton down roughly 20 spots in my fantasy baseball outfield rankings in annual draft leagues after knocking him down to 400 at bats. For keeper leagues, the injury has no impact on his long-term value. St. Louis Cardinals closer Jason Motte could be headed for the disabled list to start the season with a strained elbow. There is no timetable for his return until the team is able to conduct some further examinations in the next few days. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has named Mitchell Boggs as closer while Motte is out of action. Rookie Trevor Rosenthal will take over as the setup man in the 8th inning of games while Motte is out. The news is not getting any better for starting pitcher Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies. He was sitting at 86 to 89 miles per hour in his last start on Saturday facing the Toronto Blue Jays Triple-A team. Halladay allowed seven hits and two earned runs in four innings with just one strikeout. Given his name and past performances, it may be tempting to keep him high on your draft board but I continue to move him down my list and I will probably avoid him altogether in my fantasy drafts.
