Phillies win again; continue to inch closer in the standings

The problem with a Wild Card race is, and particularly with the Phillies pursuit of a wild card spot right now, is that you have to count on so many things to happen. Most importantly you have to win. Then you have to count on other teams that you’re not playing to lose. Everyone held up their end of the bargain last night, and the Philadelphia Phillies are suddenly 4 games out...

Cameraman nearly hit by Austin Kearns' bat

A cameraman was nearly hit by the flying bat of Miami Marlins pinch hitter Austin Kearns during Monday night's Philadelphia Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park. It happened in the top of the eighth inning when Kearns lost the grip of his bat while swinging at an 0-1 pitch and it went flying towards a cameraman on the third base side near the Marlins dugout. Fortunately the...

Lee, Johnson Battle in Pitcher's Duel, Phillies Push to Seven Straight Wins

Last night's wacky 9-7 win must have exhausted the Phillies, as well the Marlins. On a travel day, this evening's game got underway at 4:05, so the two teams had to battle some nasty shadows. Unfortunately for the Fish, they also had to battle Cliff Lee. Let's skip ahead to the sixth inning with the score still at 0-0. Josh Johnson had not given up a hit through...

Offense Powers Phils Past Miami, Reach .500

Utley reached base five times tonight, powering a surging Phillies club. Photo: AP The Phillies offense bailed-out a good-but-not-great effort by Roy Halladay and a near-meltdown in the 55 minute seventh inning to win 9-7, winning their sixth in a row, and reaching the .500 mark for the first time since June 4. Big stops by B.J. Rosenberg and Phillippe Aumont powered the Phils out...

The Phils end their present home stand with a two-series sweep as they sweep the fish, 3-1. The Marlins ended a 0-0 pitchers’ duel by taking the lead in the sixth as, with two men on, and with two men out, Carlos Lee hits an RBI single, knocking in Donovan Solano, who had earlier reached first base on Jimmy Rollins’ fielding error, then was safe at second base on Cliff Lee...

Phillies at .500 now…..so does this mean the fans come will back?

Philadelphia, Pa – The Phillies beat Miami 9-7 and now at .500. They are the hottest team in baseball winning 10 of their last 12 games. The Phillies find themselves 4.5 games out a wild-card spot with 20 games left. This poses the question will the band-wagon fans that turned their backs on the Phillies do a one-eighty and come back?  If the Phillies keep winning then the...

Fifteen-Hit Night Leads to 9-7 Win Over Marlins, Phillies Back at .500 Baseball

With the bases loaded, Ryan Howard hit into a double play which scored Jimmy Rollins...

Is it sensible for Mets/ Phillies to trade Hairston/ Pierre this late in the season?

As we enter the second week of September, several teams are making their postseason push. Despite all the outcry by Phillies and Mets fans to “traid e’rybody,” for the exception of Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino, the teams have stayed in tact. With teams such as the Pirates, Athletics and Orioles sticking around, would they consider trading for an outfielder even though...
