Behind the three-hit pitching of Joe Blanton, the Phils win their home series with the fish, as they defeat the Marlins, 3-1.
The Phils broke up a 0-0 tie in the fourth as Shane Victorino hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the season, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Phils added to their lead four batters later as, with a runner on second, and with two men out, John Mayberry, Jr, hits an RBI single, scoring Hunter Pence, who had earlier doubled, giving the Phils a 2-0 lead. The Marlins got a run back in the fifth as, with a man on second, and with two men out, John Buck hits an RBI single on a ball that Pence was unable to catch, knocking in Omar Infante, who had earlier doubled, cutting the Phils’ lead down to 2-1. The Phils got the run back in the seventh as Ty Wigginton hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the year, giving the Phils a 3-1 lead. Injured Philadelphia Phillies slugger Ryan Howard has already earned $65 million at the major league level and this year his 5-year $125 million extension kicks in, so it's fair to say he has some spare loot rattling around the ol' bank account. Eager to divest himself of some of that pesky money, Howard paid $3.5 million for a beachfront lot of land in Belleair, Florida...
It's not often that fans in Philadelphia would be cheering a guy hitting just .118, but Freddy Galvis is the exception. With his heads-up style of play and impressive defense, fans are rooting for the 22-year old rookie.
