Five Tool Tool:
Today in South Philadelphia, the town team disabled contract albatross Ryan Howard, called up future flameout Darin Ruf, and started 5th starter John Lannan against the Nationals in the latest of a long series of Dammit You've Got To Win Now Or The Team's Getting Broken Up games. Lannan pulled out his best start in four years against his old laundry, Jonathan Papelbon failed so spit the bit despite considerable effort, and the "good" guys won, 3-2. Which gives them their fifth win in seven games, snapped the Nats' 5-game winning streak, and raised the Phillies' won/loss record to... 44-46, 7.5 games back in the East, 6.5 back from the wild card. And, um, woo. But maybe I'm being mean here. They've won back to back series against first place clubs, having gone 2-1 against Pittsburgh and Atlanta. Ben Revere got his average up to .300 after starting the year so bad, some in the fan base were actually hoping for more John Mayberry Jr. in their l...

On Saturday, the Philadelphia Phillies placed Ryan Howard on the 15 day disabled list with left knee inflammation and Darin Ruf was called up to take his place on the roster. But could this latest injury be the beginning of Howard’s career declining right before our eyes.

Ruben Amaro publicly challenged his played when he decreed this 10-game homestand the tipping point of the 2013 season. So far so good through four games, as the Phillies topped the Nationals on Monday night, 3-2, to climb within 2.5 games of second place Washington.
John Lannan (2-3, 4.26 ERA) threw eight innings of...
For Ryan Howard, the pain became too much.
The Philadelphia Phillies put their slugging first baseman on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of inflammation in his left knee.
''It was just really hard to move, really felt stiff,'' Howard said Sunday after Philadelphia's 7-3 win over Atlanta. ''I knew I wouldn't be able to do it. It was more...
Ryan Howard was placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his left knee on Saturday, but the bad news gets worse for the Philadelphia Phillies.
On Monday, an MRI confirmed a torn meniscus in his left knee that will require surgery. The injury is expected to sideline the first baseman for 6-8 weeks, according to ESPN. No date for surgery has been set at this time.
Just when you put the baseball season behind you. Just when you started the countdown to the opening of training camp. Just when you thought your heart couldn’t take any more. The Phils put together a solid month of Major League baseball to creep back towards the .500 mark and possible playoff contention prior to the All-Star break.
Let’s be clear. The Phillies have dug...
John Lannan defeated the Washington Nationals on Monday night. With eight innings of work the 28-year-old led the Phillies to a 3-2 victory.
Lannan went from 2011 Opening Day starter to minor leaguer to free agent this winter.
While Lannan has pitched well against the Nationals in two starts this season he holds a 4.23 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP on the season overall.
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard has dealt with
discomfort in his left knee throughout the season. However, the pain became
severe enough over the weekend that Howard told the Phillies he was struggling
to move laterally at first base. At that point, Howard and the Phillies decided
they no longer wanted to push the injury, opting to place the veteran slugger on...
Ryan Howard has been a complete bust since signing his extension. Injuries, inability to hit lefties, plummeting OPS, shoddy defense, albatross of a contract, base-jamming "speed", etcetera. His latest ailment will keep him out of action for 6-8 weeks (at least we get to watch Darin Ruf). WSBGMs warned everyone of this upon Amaro's jumping of the gun to sign Howard...

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard can’t seem to shake the injury bug that has plagued him over the past two years. After missing a majority of the 2012 season because of a torn left Achilles tendon that he suffered in the 2011 NLDS against St. Louis, the slugger will miss another 6-8 weeks due to a torn meniscus in his left knee that will...
Facing familiar hitters, John Lannan was at his best.
Lannan tossed four-hit ball over eight innings against his former team, Ben Revere had three hits and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 3-2 Monday night.
Lannan (2-3) had four strikeouts in his longest outing in four years. The lefty registered 12 groundouts to beat the team he played for his first six...

John Lannan threw eight scoreless inning against his old club, before the Phils hang on in the ninth to defeat the Nats, 3-2.
The Phils took the lead in the bottom of the first as, with two men on, and with one man out, Dom Brown hits an RBI infield single, on a ball that was deflected to first baseman Adam LaRoche by starting pitcher Dan Haren, knocking in Ben Revere, who had started...
Ruben Amaro said today that Ryan Howard will miss 6-8 week as the result of an MRI showed a torn left meniscus for the first baseman. There is no word yet on when the surgery will occur, although it will happen soon. Darin Ruf will get the majority of the reps in Howard’s spot.
Howard had hit well since June 1, putting up a .885 OPS over his last 30 games. However, the pain in...
