The home of retired MLB catcher Carlton Fisk was reportedly burglarized on Friday. As you may imagine, his humble abode boasts many valuable and coveted items including memorabilia, electronics, jewelry, and whatever else a professional athlete keeps in his home. However, despite all of those tempting items to steal, the burglars only opted to swipe one thing in particular.From Sarasota Herald-Tribune:The Manatee County home of Baseball Hall of Fame catcher Carlton "Pudge" Fisk was burglarized and thousands of dollars in collectible coins stolen, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said Friday. A pest control service notified deputies Thursday that the unoccupied house on 63rd Avenue East, a secluded area east of Bradenton surrounded by trees, had been broken into. "All they took was the coins, there were other things that they didn't take that were of value," said sheriff's spokesman Dave Bristow. The silver coins were worth thousands of dollars; no baseball memorabilia or other valuable items in the home were taken. Since no other items were stolen, the Sheriff's Office is considering that the house was not a "random" target, but the burglar knew the coins were there.Perhaps the thieves were feeling a tad bit guilty of their wrongdoing and that is why they only swiped the coins? Or, maybe they figured the coins were the simplest, yet most conspicuous, items to take? Or, maybe it was Reds pitcher Pat Darcy, who still probably upset about the game-winning home run Fisk belted off of him in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series? Whatever the case may be, this mystery smells an awful lot like an inside job. Via Deadspin.
