The calendar has officially flipped to February. Most baseball fans see the excitement and anticipation building to when pitchers and catchers report. However, there are some people that are not necessarily excited. One  of the interesting phenomena from the past several years has been the disappearing market for aging players. Every year, all kinds of publications release their top 50 free agents and most of them are down to the final three. There is one more prominent free agent that also is without a job. Unfortunately for them, the list of available jobs is also dwindling. None of us were in the room when these players were negotiating with teams, so we don’t necessarily know every deal they have turned down, but suffice it to say, they probably wish they took some of them at this point. Roy Oswalt and Market Determination Revisited

Yesterday in this space, this author wrote that Roy Oswalt had earned the right to limit his market choices and to stick to his price in negotiations as a free agent. The piece was a counterpoint to another writer who stated that Oswalt "had too big a head" and can move along from the St. Louis Cardinals' feeding trough. The point was also made that Oswalt is well worth...

Phillies Still Remain In Contact With Roy Oswalt

According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports, the Red Sox, Reds, and Phillies all remain in the running for Roy Oswalt. Oswalt is scrambling to find a new home with only two weeks before the start of spring workouts. Oswalt's top choices are the Rangers and the Cardinals, but both have financial limitations. Cardinals Don’t Need Oswalt, But It Would Be Nice To Have Him

The St. Louis Cardinals technically have a full pitching staff that includes five starting pitchers with a combined eight World Series championship rings, but they still might trade one of them for a pitcher who has no rings. Rumors continue to swirl that the Cardinals will add Roy Oswalt to the rotation before the season begins. Oswalt, 34, has said he wants to remain a starting...

Reuniting the 4 Aces?

Roy Oswalt remains unemployed. Many teams would love his services, but don't have the money and/or roster space to sign him. Roy2 wants to pitch for the Rangers or Cardinals due to those teams' proximity to his Mississippi home, but Texas and St. Louis aren't biting at the 1 year $8-10M price tag Oswalt is commanding. The Red Sox, Reds, and Phillies have also been keeping...

Roy Oswalt not likely to join Rangers

Twenty days remain until Texas Rangers pitchers and catchers run through their first workout of spring training, and the pitching staff remains in flux.

Your Morning Dump... Where "options" still exist

Every morning we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump... Ben Cherington said earlier this week that it was unlikely the Red Sox would add a starting pitcher before spring training. But he also said that he couldn't rule it out. To the best of my ability...

2012 Royals Potpourri I

Until the Royals open the 2012 Season I will start each article with important statistics: 16 Days until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training. 30 Days until Cactus League play starts. 62 Days until Opening Day (I guess night, late night). On to the article. I’m impressed that I made it this far into the off-season without having to resort to this. I have three thoughts...
