This Day in Baseball History: July 6th

In 1929, the Cardinals scored ten runs in the first and fifth innings as they defeated the Phillies, 28-6… the twenty-eight runs set a National League record for the most runs score in one game by one team. In 1933, the first ever All-Star game was played at Chicago’s Comiskey Park… Babe Ruth’s two-run home run helped the American League defeat the National League, 4-2. In 1938, Yankees’ hurler Lefty Gomez was defeated for the first time in four All-Star starts as the NL won the All-Star game 4-1… National League shortstop Leo Durocher became the first Dodger to start in an All-Star Game and got a ‘bunt’ home run. In 1941, the Yankees unveiled a center field monument dedicated to Lou Gehrig as a tribute from his teammates… the monument was in memory of the beloved Yankee captain who died the prior month of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
