In 1922, George Sisler’s 41-game hit streak was stopped by New York’s Joe Bush — the same pitcher the streak had begun against back on July 27th. In 1956, Mickey Mantle hit his 50th home run, making him only the eighth player in major league history to do so… Mantle would go on to win the Triple Crown with a .353 batting average, 52 home runs and 130 RBI. In 1960, Braves pitcher Lew Burdette faced the minimum of twenty-seven batters as he no-hit the Phillies, 1-0… Tony Gonzalez, who was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning, was erased on a double play. In 1967, at Tiger Stadium, the Red Sox rallied to move into a first place tie with Detroit (85-66)… the late-inning heroics began with Carl Yastrzemski’s ninth inning home run (his 40th) which tied the game at 5-to-5… third baseman Dalton Jones then hit a solo homer in the tenth inning to provide the margin of victory in the Bosox 6-5 win.
