It happened over the weekend, so it didn’t get much publicity, but Tribe legend Jim Thome decided to continue his baseball career. Not surprisingly, he won’t be doing it in Cleveland. Instead, he did surprise a lot of people signing with another one of his former teams, the Philadelphia Phillies. As you all know, Thome left the Indians for the “greener” pastures of Philadelphia after the 2002 season in controversial fashion. But after his triumphant return to the Tribe last August, the goodwill with the team that raised him has returned. The Indians sold a lot of tickets and Thome was able to mend the fences here with those who hadn’t forgiven him for leaving. The final weekend homestand was a tribute to Gentleman Jim and the team unveiled the plans for a statue of him in Heritage Park. It seemed like a perfect way for Thome to end his career and walk off into the sunset. But the thing of it is, Jimmy wants to continue playing. The problem for the India...

Jim Thome is once again a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. It is not a surprising move, but it is an interesting one. Both parties sentimentally hoped to reunite during the 2011 season, but the Minnesota Twins traded Thome instead to the Cleveland Indians (his original team) in August. Thome has maintained a strong relationship with Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, who has been...

On the heels of signing Jim Thome last Friday, the Philadelphia Phillies have made their second big move of the 2011 offseason, re-signing closer Ryan Madson. But the cost for Madson is already causing jeers for GM Ruben Amaro across the internet - four years for $44 million, with a $13 million option for the fifth year. The reaction on Twitter has been harsh, and it's been brutal...

Phillies ink slugger Jim Thome to 1-year pact

Jim Thome wants his second stint in Philadelphia to come with the World Series title he missed the first time around.

The Cuddyer Chase Heats Up

We're not exactly sure yet what role Jim Thome is going to wind up playing on the 2012 Phillies. He'll be a potent power bat off the bench for sure and he might be an occasional first baseman, even though he's said in the past that he doesn't think playing the field is his best use. Should the Phils make it to the World Series, he'd certainly be their designated...
