Detroit Tigers: the bench battle

The Detroit Tigers are about to have to make some serious roster moves. Opening Day is officially less than two weeks away and, as usual, Detroit can only take 25 players north. Most of the spots are certain. Andy Dirks, Austin Jackson, and Torii Hunter comprise the outfield starters. The infield is set in stone with Alex Avila, Prince Fielder, Omar Infante, Jhonny Peralta, and Miguel...

Bryce Harper spent his off day answering phones for the Nats, got free burritos for life from Chipotle

Busy day off for Bryce Harper. First, he supposedly spent the day taking season ticket orders on the phone for the Nationals (pic above via @BHarper3407): Later, Harper found out Chipotle gave him his own Bryce Harper burrito card - and burritos for life. "Thanks chipotle for my free burrito's for life card! The best thing ever! I really appreciate it!"...

Are Tigers really shopping Porcello?

FT. MYERS, Fla. — The teams interested in acquiring right-hander Rick Porcello continue to wonder if the Tigers actually will trade him. The Red Sox, Rangers and Padres are the teams most active on Porcello, according to major-league sources. The Orioles also have scouted him, sources say. The Tigers, however, might prefer to keep Porcello and retain depth in their rotation. They...

In other important Washington Nationals Spring Training news, Gio Gonzalez went to Magic Kingdom on Sunday and posed with Winnie the Pooh. Not nearly as important as Bryce Harper posing with Mickey Mouse, but still. (via @GioGonzalez47) Befriend Nats Enquirer on Facebook. Follow on Twitter.

No clown questions, bro: Bryce Harper fielding Nationals season-ticket calls (photo)

Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper apparently had Tuesday off from his real job, so instead of just taking it easy and doing whatever it is that Bryce Harper does to chill and relax — although Harper strikes me as the kind of guy who would use the term “chilax” instead of going with both “relax” and “chill,” but that’s another story altogether — he is spending...

Is It April Yet?

For the first time, probably ever, I can say that this year’s Spring Training for the Washington Nationals is painfully, unquestionably, absolutely, boring.    The team’s opening day roster is all but set. There are no serious injuries, no silly over-performing or underperforming overreactions, not even a last chancer or two sprinkled around camp. The starters...
