The Detroit Tigers have given up hopes of Victor Martinez coming back this season. Tigers trainer Kevin Rand said Friday the decision was made earlier in the week to stop Martinez's running program. Rand says the team is now aiming for the 33-year-old Martinez to return for the start of spring training next year. The designated hitter is recovering from microfracture surgery on his left knee. The best-case scenario had him possibly playing in September. He hit .330 with 103 RBIs last season to help Detroit win its first division title since 1987 in the first year of his $50 million, four-year contract. Martinez tore his left ACL during offseason conditioning in January, leading to the Tigers signing slugger Prince Fielder. --- Follow Larry Lage on Twitter at www.Twitter.com/larrylage

Game 2012.120: Orioles at Tigers

64-55, 2nd place, 1.5 games behind CWS, tied for WC lead. Yes, Prince Fielder had 2 HR and 4 RBIs last night, but let’s not overlook what Miguel Cabrera dud. He hit a jack in the 1st to put the Tigers up 1-0, and then got on base twice in front of Fielder HRs. And to think, he’s only 29. And the more Fielder hits, the better pitches Cabrera will see. Watch out. For all of the...

Leyland: Playing third pumps Miggy up

Miguel Cabrera this season has been more openly demonstrative than ever before. He will pound the water jug like a bongo when frustrated and make pointed comments to teammates when the need arises. Cabrera also is much looser, happier and has developed a whole set of handshakes and interactive hand jive with teammates. Neither Cabrera nor first baseman Prince Fielder have a name...

Prince Power: Fielder’s two bombs sends Tigers to 5-3 win over Orioles

Verlander can’t be Verlander every night… But when he isn’t it would be nice if his offense can pick him up. In what would be decent outing for just about any other pitcher in the League...

Fielder's two homers lift Tigers over Orioles

By MICHAEL J. HAPPYFOXSportsDetroit.com DETROIT -- As soon as he hit it, you knew it was gone. The sound of bat-meets-ball resonating throughout Comerica Park said so. So did where the ball eventually landed, in the seats down the right-field line, directly behind a Bell Tire advertisement plastered on a facade 400-plus feet away from home plate. Prince Fielder's eighth...

More missed opportunities as the Tigers fall to Baltimore 3-2

Rick Porcello was good enough to earn at least a no decision Saturday night, unfortunately though his offense didn’t take advantage of the opportunities presented to them. The Tigers left a total of six runners on base and hit into three double-plays as they fell to the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 from Comerica Park. Porcello, who’s been largely inconsistent this season went six strong...
