Brandon Inge has not played his last game as a Detroit Tiger. Tonight, the Tigers confirmed that they have assured Inge that he will rejoin the team when Major League rosters expand on September 1st, if not earlier. Earlier today, an Associated Press report said that Inge had said that the Tigers told him he would be called back up at that time.
The Tigers had designated Inge for assignment on July 20 after acquiring third baseman Wilson Betemit from the Kansas City Royals for two minor leaguers.
Entering tonight's game, Inge has hit .294 (22 hits in 74 at bats) with four home runs and 12 RBIs through 19 games with the Toledo Mudhens. In 12 games with the Tigers, Betemit has hit .282 (11 hits in 39 at bats) with one home run and five RBIs.
I'm calling it now. Brandon Inge will play a factor in the Tigers winning the (putrid) division this year.
