That’s some birthday present for Max Scherzer. All that was missing were the candles. Scherzer celebrated his 29th birthday in style Saturday as the Tigers wrapped up a 15-hit offensive outburst to help the right-hander become the first pitcher in the majors with 15 wins. And Scherzer did his part shutting down the Phillies in a 10-0 rout before a sellout crowd at Comerica Park. “This is a nice start where the guys go out there and score a ton of runs for me and it makes my job a heck of a lot easier” said Scherzer who allowed just one hit in six innings and notched seven strikeouts. “For me this game is about the rest of my teammates and less about me.” Miguel Cabrera who missed four games because of a hip injury helped in the festivities by blasting a home run to set off a five-run first inning. Cabrera went 2-for-3 with three RBIs before Ramon Santiago replaced him in the fifth inning — but only as a precaution. “I’m feeling OK so I tried to go out there and play” said Cabrera who hit his 32nd home run of the season on his first swing of the game. “I don’t lose my swing tried (not to) lose anything. I don’t want to do too much too early.” The next four batters had hits capped by Matt Tuiasosopo’s three-run home run to deep center field after Jhonny Peralta’s RBI single. The blast was estimated at 438 feet according to ESPN Stats and Information — and ended an 0-for-10 slump for Tuiasosopo.
