The Jeckyl and Hyde Tigers were at it again Wednesday night as Royals LHP Bruce Chen had his way with the Detroit offense in a 1-0 Kansas City win from Kauffman Stadium.
The night after the Royals were able to tag Tigers ace Justin Verlander for 8 runs, Chen was embroiled in a pitching duel with Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez.
When it was all said and done though Chen threw eight scoreless innings while the Tigers failed to provide Sanchez with any kind of offensive support.
The deciding run came in the fourth inning when Eric Hosmer singled home Mike Moustakes after his double to get things started.
“It’s part of the game, a blooper like that,” Sanchez said. “I have to take it. You have to go back to the mound and get the next guy out.”
Detroit’s best chance to at least tie the game came in the 7th when Miguel Cabrera doubled to lead off the inning. Cabrera advanced to third on Fielder’s flyout, and Chen hit Young with a pitch to put runners on the corners with one out.
