The Jeckyl and Hyde Tigers were at it again Wednesday night as Royals LHP Bruce Chen had his way with the Detroit offense in a 1-0 Kansas City win from Kauffman Stadium. The night after the Royals were able to tag Tigers ace Justin Verlander for 8 runs, Chen was embroiled in a pitching duel with Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez. When it was all said and done though Chen threw eight scoreless innings while the Tigers failed to provide Sanchez with any kind of offensive support. The deciding run came in the fourth inning when Eric Hosmer singled home Mike Moustakes after his double to get things started. “It’s part of the game, a blooper like that,” Sanchez said. “I have to take it. You have to go back to the mound and get the next guy out.” Detroit’s best chance to at least tie the game came in the 7th when Miguel Cabrera doubled to lead off the inning. Cabrera advanced to third on Fielder’s flyout, and Chen hit Young with a pitch to put runners on the corners with one out. From there t...

Tigers fall to Chen's gem in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Bruce Chen allowed four hits over a season-high eight innings, and Eric Hosmer's infield single in the fourth drove in the only run in the Kansas City Royals' 1-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night. The last time Chen (10-10) lasted eight innings was last September, in his final two starts of the year. The veteran left-hander hadn...

Royals defense stocked with Gold Glove talent

It won't happen this year, but at some point in the next year or two, the Royals almost surely will break their franchise record for most Gold Glove winners on the same team. The Royals three times have had two Gold Glovers on the same team, the last coming in 1989 when Bret Saberhagen and Bob Boone each won the award. And here's another strong possibility: The Royals...

Verlander has rare poor outing in loss to Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Mike Moustakas had three hits and three RBIs and the Kansas City Royals roughed up Justin Verlander in a 9-8 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night. Verlander, the reigning AL MVP and Cy Young Award winner, was charged with eight earned runs, matching his career high, in 5 2-3 innings. It was the third time in Verlander's career he had surrendered...

De Vries, Twins open up series in Kansas City

The Kansas City Royals have spent the last month looking like a team that's poised to give contenders fits down the stretch. That's just what the woeful Minnesota Twins have done to them. The Royals can finish August with the AL Central's best record if they can finally figure out the visiting Twins on Friday night and record a season high-tying fourth straight win...

Game 2012.128: Tigers at Royals

Detroit Tigers, 69-58, 2nd place, 2 back, 1 back for WC spot. The Tigers hit the road after a successful 6-3 home stand (that somehow didn’t feel like 6-3) with a little mini-trip to KC for three, before returning for a big series against Chicago. Kansas City shouldn’t be taken too lightly: less than 2 weeks ago they did the Tigers a huge favor and swept the White Sox in 3,...

Down On The Farm: Kansas City Royals

Wil Myers hits the ball very far, very often. As one of the most complete minor league hitters in baseball, it is almost astonishing that he is yet to crack the line-up of the Royals. He is one of the most exciting, major-league ready talents still yet to accrue service time, a major boon for the system. However, the system’s top arms have either struggled or been hurt, and a...

Kansas City Royals Get Naughty In The Dugout

Our friends at GIFULMINATION were at it again tonight catching this hilarious moment of Kansas City Royals pitcher Aaron Crow giving the universal ******* motion while in the bullpen.  The Royals haven’t been good in years so being third in the division obviously is having its benefits for the team. I just wonder if he’s explaining what someone did to him or what he did to someone else?

Miguel Cabrera’s Lazy Effort in 9th Caps Detroit Tigers’ Pathetic Series vs. Royals

Cabrera dogged it out of the batter's box, allowing Alcides Escobar to jump, double clutch and still throw to first in time for a double play out. Continue reading →
