PLAYERS: Miguel Cabrera
TEAMS: Detroit Tigers
After leaving Thursday night's game against the Oakland A's due to injury, Miguel Cabrera was back in the lineup Friday night against the Indians. But his night lasted only two innings, as he was forced to leave the game with irritation to his abdominal area. As reported by Jason Beck of MLB.com, Cabrera left Thursday night's game abdominal discomfort that extended into the groin area.  But manager Jim Leyland wrote Cabrera's name into the starting lineup after checking with him on Friday afternoon.  Cabrera struck out in the first and did not have a play in the field in the first two innings. But when the Tigers took the field in the third, Cabrera was on the bench. Leyland insisted that Cabrera was ready to play on Friday, and would not put him in if he was not ready to go. "Believe me, if he can't play, he won't play," Leyland said. "He's fine. He's hurting some. I checked with him today. He's ready to go. He's sore. That's the way it is."  "You have to be willing to accept what it is, and we're willing to accept it," Leyland said. "The only thing he can't do is he can't run. He still catches the ball at third. He still throws them out. He still hits the ball over the fence. He's still gets hits. He still knocks in runs. He's handicapped a little bit physically, but nobody in here or any place else in the organization would risk hurting a guy long term if he didn't feel he was ready to play." The Tigers are keeping their options open at third base should Cabrera be out for any significant length of time.  Matt Tuiasosopo, who played third base in Spring Training with Cabrera in the World Baseball Classic, worked out at third base during batting practice Friday.  Another option is utility infielder Danny Worth, who could be called up when rosters expand. He has been playing some third base at Triple-A Toledo. Cabrera is batting .359 with 43 home runs and 130 runs batted in. This is coming off a season where he hit .330 with 44 home runs and 139 rbi's. For his career, Cabrera has a .321 batting average with 364 home runs and 1,253 rbi's.
