The Detroit Tigers have placed outfielder Matt Tuiasosopo on
the disabled list due to an intercostal strain, according to Jason Beck of
The timing of the injury is awful for Tuiasosopo, who has
been a solid contributor this season in a part-time role for the Tigers. He was
poised to see an increase in playing time considering his performance and
Austin Jackson’s leg soreness. However, he’ll now take a few weeks off to
recover from his intercostal strain, an injury that can linger if not given the
proper time to heal.
Detroit initially hoped Tuiasosopo’s ailment was a minor rib
cage strain, as it held him out of Thursday’s starting lineup. Instead, it’s
enough to land him on the 15-day DL. In a corresponding roster move the Tigers
recalled Avisail Garcia.
Over 88 plate appearances for the Tigers this season, Tuiasosopo
has hit .338/.466/.563 with seven doubles and three home runs.
