The Tigers capped off a big weekend at Comerica with a 7-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals earning themselves a sweep and five game winning streak as the league breaks for the All-Star Game in Kansas City. Max Scherzer who missed his last start due to a sore hamstring looked unphased by it Sunday afternoon turning in another quality start going 7 innings allowing only 1 run on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 7. Scherzer’s performance also gave the Tigers the AL record for strikeouts before the All-Star Break with 711 total surpassing the 2001 New York Yankees. The Tigers managed to get on the board first against Royals starter Everett Teaford when Jhonny Peralta hit a towering home run to left field in the second inning scoring Brennan Boesch and giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Salvador Perez was able to get the Royals within one with a solo home run in the third before Delmon Young hit his fourth home run in as many days, the longest streak by a Tigers hitter since Marcu...

Kansas City Royals trade rumors

With a 37-47 record at the break, the Kansas City Royals appear poised to be one of the few true sellers at the trade deadline. The spring of 2012 was forged with great promise in BBQ City but has been met with typical substandard play and disappointment. The worst offender has been the pitching staff. KC’s team ERA of 4.35 ranks 24th in the big leagues. The combined ERA of their...

Tigers' player does the old ball-on-a-string trick

During Sunday's Royals-Tigers game at Comerica Park, Detroit catcher Gerald Laird had a little fun by pulling the old ball-on-a-string trick with some kids hovering above the home team's dugout. Laird can be seen with a devilish grin while he played keep-away with the patient kids until one of the little dugout rats proudly snapped the souvenir from the string. It's...

Royals prospect Wil Myers shatters camera lens with foul ball (Video)

As we move into Major League Baseball's All-Star Weekend, the MLB Futures game took place on Sunday afternoon. Some of the best minor-league prospects from around the world and the United States took part in the game including Royals triple A prospect Wil Myers. In the sixth inning of play, Myers fouled off a pitch from the World's Ariel Pena which shattered an...

Source: Verlander to start for AL in All-Star Game

KANSAS CITY, MO. Justin Verlander has accrued virtually every individual honor available to a starting pitcher: a Rookie of the Year award and World Series Game 1 start in 2006; a no-hitter in 2007; Most Valuable Player and Cy Young awards, along with the second no-hitter of his career, in 2011. Tuesday, he will add yet another: a start for the American League in the All-Star Game...

Royals' second-half prospects rest on opening home stand

Let's move into Fantasyland and pretend the Kansas City Royals are not yet buried in the mediocre American League Central Division. They had visions of grandeur of being at .500 by the All-Star Game. That looked feasible on June 29 when they won their fourth straight and were four games below .500, 35-39. Then they staggered into the All-Star break by losing nine of 11...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Justin Verlander has accrued virtually every individual honor available to a starting pitcher: a Rookie of the Year award and World Series Game 1 start in 2006; a no-hitter in 2007; Most Valuable Player and Cy Young awards, along with the second no-hitter of his career, in 2011. 2012 MLB Midseason Awards: AL Cy Young

Justin Verlander made a mockery of the American League for the majority of last season on the way to capturing 28 first place votes and taking home the Cy Young and MVP Awards. He’s firmly placed himself in the discussion through the first half of the 2012 season, but the race is much [...]

Tigers avoid collapse in ninth, top Royals

DETROIT (AP) -- Prince Fielder hit a two-run, game-tying homer in the first, Delmon Young had a two-run home run to pad the lead in the seventh inning and the Detroit Tigers held on to beat the Kansas City Royals 8-7 Saturday. Detroit closer Jose Valverde started the ninth with a four-run lead and almost lost it. Valverde walked Alex Gordon on four pitches to lead off the inning...

Royals fans upset with Robinson Cano for not picking Billy Butler for HR Derby

Royals fans are unhappy with Robinson Cano for not choosing Billy Butler to participate in the Home Run Derby, and they expressed their displeasure by constantly booing the Yankees All-Star. Cano was named captain of the American League Home Run Derby team and the defending champ selected Jose Bautista, Mark Trumbo, and Prince Fielder as his teammates. The fans in Kansas City booed...

Kate Upton at the Tigers game

In case anyone missed it, Sports Illustrated model and maybe the hottest women on the planet right now Kate Upton attended the Tigers’ 8-7 victory over the Kansas City Royals Saturday afternoon. The St. Joseph, Michigan native (located in the south-west portion of Mitten) is familiar face to the Tigers this season having worked with Justin Verlander on the MLB 2K12 commercials...

Futures dominate World at Kauffman Stadium

Manager George Brett had a simple message for his U.S. Team prior to Sunday's All-Star Future's Game against the World Team at Kauffman Stadium: Embarrass the World Team. "I really did tell them that," Brett said. "I think that's the attitude you have to have going into every game. You want to embarrass the other team." Mission accomplished. The...

Kansas City Royals Fans Boo Robinson Cano, Yankees Fans Furious; Forget Chase Utley Boos

Your browser does not support iframes.  Kansas City Royals fans provided the highlight of what was otherwise a dull Home Run Derby.   Bitter that Kansas City's hometown hero Billy Butler was left off of the Home Run Derby as captain Robinson Cano picked other players despite Cano stating that he would take a hometown player, they let them have it.    Billy Butler has 16...

Minor Accomplishments for Week 13

Transparency isn’t a strong suit of Major League front offices, nor should it be.  Nowhere is this fact more glaring than in the case of the Kansas City Royals and the immediate future of top hitting prospect Wil Myers.  The Royals have insisted that they’ll practice patience with Myers and let him marinate in Omaha for the duration of the season.  Meanwhile, in Jeff Francoeur...

Home Run Derby Live Blog: Jose Bautista, Prince Fielder Lead Powerful Derby Field

8:45 a.m. ET: "It's going, going, going, it's...." Chances are you'll be hearing that phrase a lot Monday night, as Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium provides the setting for the 2012 edition of the Home Run Derby. Begun in 1985, when Dave Parker hit six home runs representing the Cincinnatti Reds at the Metrodome in a single round, the competition has become...
