The Tigers capped off a big weekend at Comerica with a 7-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals earning themselves a sweep and five game winning streak as the league breaks for the All-Star Game in Kansas City.
Max Scherzer who missed his last start due to a sore hamstring looked unphased by it Sunday afternoon turning in another quality start going 7 innings allowing only 1 run on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 7. Scherzer’s performance also gave the Tigers the AL record for strikeouts before the All-Star Break with 711 total surpassing the 2001 New York Yankees.
The Tigers managed to get on the board first against Royals starter Everett Teaford when Jhonny Peralta hit a towering home run to left field in the second inning scoring Brennan Boesch and giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
