After Jim Leyland retired, the Detroit Tigers set out on a search for a new manager. After interviewing candidates, the Tigers have decided on who they plan to hire. The Tigers are going to hire Brad Ausmus as manager, according to Adam Spolane of SportsRadio 610. Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal has confirmed the report. The Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals and Seattle Mariners also showed interest in Ausmus. One thing Ausmus won’t have to worry about is rebuilding the Tigers. He is going to a team that went to the ALCS this past season and has players such as Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera, Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer. They have a very talented roster and should be in playoff contention next season. The 44-year old Ausmus played 18 seasons at the big league level. He played for the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres, Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers. In those 18 seasons, he hit .251 with 80 home runs and 607 RBI’s.
