The Detroit Tigers trade for Delmon Young on Monday is a shocking one on a number of fronts, but it bolsters an already dangerous lineup. It’s surprising because Young is only 25 years old and proved to be helpful in the Minnesota Twins lineup in years past. Last season, Young hit .298, with 21 home runs, and 112 RBI and is a career .289 hitter. This season Young has had a bit of a drop off, hitting .266, but has picked it up as of late hitting over .300 since June. Young will replace Magglio Ordonez in the outfield and in the three spot in the lineup and it is an instant upgrade from an offensive perspective. Young wont bring much more defensively, but his purpose will be to offer protection for Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez who haven’t gotten as many opportunities as expected with Ordonez hitting in front of them.
