Many news outlets that cover the Mets, such as the New York Daily News have reported that the Mets have been working to sign ex-Nationals pitcher, Tim Redding, to a two year deal.
Redding, who is 30 years old, had a decent year with the Nationals last year going 10-11 and posted a 4.95 ERA and 120 strike outs.
While I would have no problem seeing Redding take over the role that belonged to Pedro Martinez last season, I'm not entirely sold on this pickup.
The deal breaker for me in this deal is that in order to sign Redding, the Mets would need to give him a second year, which is risky considering the fact that it is unknown if Redding can handle the high pressure atmosphere of New York.
On top of that, one has to ask themselves is Redding, who made $1 Million last season, any better than what the Mets already have in their farm system.
Personally, I'd rather see them give the 5th job to Jon Niese out of spring training, who is younger and more affordable than Redding.
