It’s not as if this should come as a surprise to anyone but the Phillies just aren’t getting the production they need from J.C. Romero and it might be a good idea for the team to start looking for replacements.
Romero is in his fifth year with the Phillies and he has been a key piece of the bullpen, but since his 50-day suspension to start off 2009, he just hasn’t been the same effective pitcher he used to be.
Last night, Romero faced six batters. He walked two of them and gave up a hit. He did record two strikeouts, but half the batters reached base against him and Romero gave up a run. It also doesn’t help that Charlie Manuel left him in against four righties, who went 1-for-2 with two walks against Romero, before he struck out both left-handed hitters.
Romero’s 3.86 ERA seems respectable enough but he’s struggled with his control more than ever this year. He has the worst strikeout to walk ratio of any relief pitcher who has faced at least 280 batters the last three season...
