If Jim Joyce were a baseball player, he would have blamed his trainer. If he were a golfer, he would have blamed sexual addiction. If he were a politician, he would have said he inherited this mess.
But when Joyce screwed up, he said one thing.
"I kicked the (bleep) out of it."
In other words, it was my fault. It's all on me. I cost Detroit pitcher Armando Galarraga a perfect game.
In case you missed it, Joyce missed it big-time when he called Jason Donald, the 27th Cleveland batter, safe at first base Wednesday night.
The play has been replayed approximately 2.7 million times. Each one confirmed Joyce blew it.
Normally, this would have made Joyce the most reviled human this side of the BP board room. But Joyce did not run or hide or blame the media or hire Ari Fleischer to spin his way out of the mess.
He admitted his mistake, apologized and said he deserved all the grief that would come his way.
