Veteran first baseman Todd Helton is pain free and is very optimistic about coming back with the Rockies for the next season writes Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. “I think, physically, I will be able to come back,” Helton said. “So I plan on coming back, but there are a couple of things still on my mind. I want to know I have a good chance to make it through next year — healthy. That will factor into it.” Saunders adds that Helton's age and his latest injury and performance “have raised the possibility this could be his last season,” but it appears he'll play at least one more year. The 39-year old first baseman is signed through the 2013 season for $5 million. This year, before undergoing season-ending surgery, Helton hit .238/.343/.400 with 7 HR's, 37 RBI's and a 87 OPS+ in 283 plate appearances for the Rockies.
