With his club reduced to the roll of September spoiler for the third straight season first-year manager Walt Weiss is hoping the Rockies can still land a few punches. They did just that Monday night at Coors Field decking the Cardinals 6-2 with a four-run rally in the eighth inning. Catcher Wilin Rosario delivered the telling blow driving a single to left to score Troy Tulowitzki. Rosario however left the game when his right calf cramped up. Todd Helton who officially announced his retirement during a news conference earlier in the day played a part in the rally. He sliced a single to right-center moving Tulowitzki into scoring position. The Rockies piled it on against Cardinals relievers Trevor Rosenthal and John Axford: Charlie Blackmon crunched a run-scoring double to left for his third hit of the night and pinch-hitter Ryan Wheeler sent a two-run single screaming down the left-field line. "Charlie has played really well and is getting a lot of playing time" manager Walt Weiss said. "He's done a (heck) of a job playing all three spots (in the outfield). And the hits he's gotten off some of the tougher lefties in the league is really impressive." Blackmon raked an RBI single off Cardinals hard-throwing lefty reliever Kevin Siegrist in the seventh to give Colorado a short-lived 2-1 lead. Coming off a lackluster 2-7 road trip and staring at a possible 90-loss season Weiss says it's imperative that the Rockies show some fight in the final two weeks of the season. "I think integrity of the game should always be a factor regardless of what your circumstances are" Weiss said before the game. "We are going to try to win the rest of our games. I don't think that is going to change."
