Mets Merized Online:
According to Kevin Burkhardt, Wilmer Flores will make his debut at second base tonight when the Mets take on the Phillies.
I’m looking forward to this….

Wilmer Flores will get a chance to play second this week, according to Kristie Ackert of the Daily News.
Lost in the debut of Daisuke Matsuzaka last night, was the three-hit performance of third baseman Wilmer Flores, the player whose numbers were mostly the product of the Pacific Coast League, according to some so-called experts. Experts I took pride in calling out a couple of weeks ago, one of them projecting Flores as a .240-ish hitter in the majors.
It was the fourth multiple-hit game in 13 starts for the right-handed phenom who is now batting .306 since making his debut on August 6 – the day he turned 22-years old.
In addition to his prowess as a hitter, Flores has also shown glimpses of the middle of the order hitter many scouts projected as his 11 RBI in those 13 starts would ind...

Matt Harvey might as well play on Twitter because he’s not going to be pitching for the New York Mets any time soon.
Last night, while his teammates outside of Marlon Byrd and John Buck were taking batting practice, Harvey mustered all his strength to tweet: “Thank you everyone for the kind words and support. I may be done this year, but I will be back next year for April 1.’’...
Wheeler struck out seven over six and two thirds allowing only two runs in his fourth straight quality start. He has 29 Ks over that span. I’m sure after the Matt Harvey news it’s only a matter of time before they shut Wheeler down for the year, given that they were already giving the matter some consideration last month...
Are you excited for the final month of baseball, Mets’ fans?
Clearly that’s a rhetorical question.
With the Mets dropping six of their last seven games, the grittiness and fight that this team displayed shortly after the All-Star break, all but seems to have dissipated. The air has been let out of the balloon as far as this season goes.
Obviously, it’s not just the mounting...
JAYCE BOYD TOPS THE LIST
With the amount of promising prospects that have come up through the Mets system recently, many fans have become more focused on the minor leagues. Many view the exciting crop of young players the Mets currently possess as a sign that the team will soon escape mediocrity, so the elite prospects have garnered a lot of attention. However, the Mets also...
“We all want to win as many games as possible, but my job is to match the short term with the long term,” he said. “We felt this was in our best interest.”
That’s what Mets general manager Sandy Alderson had to say to reporters before tonight’s game, in response to trading catcher John Buck and outfielder Marlon Byrd.
Sandy added that second base prospect Dilson Herrera...
Providing the weather clears, the New York Mets will run out another rookie this afternoon: lanky center fielder Matt den Dekker. This kid can fly and run down a ball in the gap with anybody the Mets have, but is a slow study at the plate.
Den Dekker’s opportunity comes in the aftermath of the trade of Marlon Byrd to Pittsburgh.
A capsule of den Dekker’s production was last...
The New York Mets aren't contending for the playoffs this season, but the wind was even further taken out of the team's sails yesterday when it was announced that right-hander Matt Harvey could require Tommy John surgery. Now, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that the Mets are expected to be active on the trade front as the end of August approaches.
Rubin notes that...
Look at all those zeroes… Lefthander Jon Niese went all the way on a three-hit shutout as the Mets beat the Phillies 5-0 tonight at Citi Field.
Niese was absolutely brilliant in what was his best start of the season and limited the Phillies to just four baserunners in the game. It was his second career shutout and he had the Phillies dumbfounded all night long with a great assortment...
With the ensuing roster shakeups throughout the organization, the recent promotions of Robert Carson, Matt den Dekker, and Anthony Recker have left Wally Backman‘s clubhouse reasonably bare as the 51s push toward a playoff berth in the Pacific Coast League.
So, to help out Las Vegas a little bit, FSL Player of the Year Dustin Lawley is making the jump from High-A to Triple-A, according...

New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey is going to have more tests on his ailing elbow but after a few weeks of rest. The teams current plan is for Harvey to rest for three weeks and then go get more tests. Harvey is hoping to avoid surgery and hopes that rest will help him do so.
Alderson said that Harvey will still wait a few weeks before deciding whether or not to have Tommy John...

Shortly after doing an unfamiliar meeting with the media in the Mets clubhouse following Thursday’s 11-3 drubbing of the Philadelphia Phillies there was something waiting for Anthony Recker beyond the room’s outer doors. A member of the team’s food staff was standing holding a birthday cake in her arms with a lone flickering candle atop it.
Thursday was Recker’s birthday...
