John Gibbons The Toronto Blue Jays did not start the second half of the season on the right foot.  The team have lost five  in a row, including a 14-5 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. “It wasn’t a good game,” said Jay’s manager. John Gibbons in the post game press conference, “We got whipped all the way around,” he said. Before the match up with the Dodgers, though, the Blue Jays faced the Tampa Bay Rays for three games and were swept.   The last two games, Toronto lost by a score of 4-3. During the final game of the Tampa Bay series, I was working on my computer.   In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Blue Jays had men on base.  As soon as I saw what was going on, I stopped what I was doing and watched the rest of the game. With two out,  it was up to Melky Cabrera to tie or win the game for the Jays.  To my dismay, though, Cabrera hit a ground ball to end the game. Man! I was really hoping the Jays start the second half of the season on a high note.  Instead, Toronto is getting worse and worse. There has been no trade rumors surrounding the Jays yet, but I’m sure there be some before the July 31 deadline. Game two of the Dodgers series looked promising for the Jays as Toronto built an 8-3 lead in the sixth inning.  Starting pitcher Todd Redmond had a fairly good night on the mound, giving up seven hits, three earned runs, a walk, and struck out six batters in 5.2 innings pitched.  Jay’s shortstop, Jose Reyes went two for five at the plate and racked up three RBIs during the game. Unfortunately, the Dodgers battled back in the later innings and won the game 10-9.  ”It can’t get worse than this,” said Gibbons. The Jays finishes up their series against Dodgers tonight and kick off a four game weekend series against Houston tomorrow.
