The Miami Marlins split a doubleheader on Tuesday in Minnesota with the Twins taking game one 4-3 before the fish took the second game 8-5.   The split moves Miami to 5-16 on the season.   The doubleheader was needed after Monday’s game was snowed out in what was the Marlins’ first interleague series of the season. Jose Fernandez started game one and allowed four runs in his five innings of work to fall to 0-2.  The rookie walked two and struck out only two which paled in comparison to earlier outings by him.   Ryan Webb worked the next three innings to save the bullpen for the second game and did so while allowing no runs on one hit.  Webb’s effort kept Miami in the game until the end.   In game two, Ricky Nolasco started and also only lasted five innings.  For Nolasco, the day went a bit better though as he allowed only two earned runs on six hits to earn his first win of 2013.   The Marlins’ ace is now 1-2 on the year with a very respectable 3.81 E.R.A.   A.J. Ramos and Mike Dunn worked the next three innings in which they combined to allow two runs on three hits.  Steve Cishek worked the ninth and earned his second save of the season. Miami only had six hits in game one but two of them went for doubles as Justin Ruggiano tallied his fifth of the year and Juan Pierre added his third.    Joe Mahoney had a big day with two hits and a pair of runs batted in during game one.   In game two, the Marlins scored eight runs on fifteen hits with Rob Brantly having a career day.  The Marlins’ backstop was 3-4 with two doubles and four runs batted in.  The three hits tied a career high for Brantly while the four RBI set a new personal high.  Giancarlo Stanton and Mahoney also doubled with the latter having two more hits to give him a combined four on the day. The Marlins are off on Wednesday before they are set to start a series against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.  Kevin Slowey is the scheduled starter for game one of the series.
