Justin Morneau hit a two-run, go-ahead homer in the eighth inning and the Minnesota Twins rallied from six runs down to beat the Los Angeles Angels 10-9 on Thursday. Joe Mauer went deep, too, hitting a three-run shot off Dan Haren in the fifth that cut into a 6-0 lead the Angels built against Francisco Liriano. Every Twins batter had at least one of the team's 20 hits, enough to make up for the 14 men left on base, including eight in scoring position. Denard Span had four hits, including an infield single that tied it at 6 in the seventh inning. On the play, he reached first at the same time as Scott Downs, stomping down on top of the reliever's foot with his cleat. Downs right ankle rolled awkwardly and he left the game what the team called a bruise.

Twins Lose Scott Baker To Another Flexor Strain

The Twins announced Wednesday that their top starter, Scott Baker, would miss the rest of the season after upcoming surgery to clear scar tissue from his right flexor pronator tendon. While this procedure has a shorter rehab time than Tommy John surgery, the rehab process is expected to take around six months, leaving Baker unavailable until late October at the earliest. The good...

How BAD are the Minnesota Twins?

I know that the baseball season is a marathon, not a sprint. But already in the early stages of the season there is cause for concern if you are a Minnesota Twins fan, like me. Coming off a 99-loss season in 2011, Twins management did almost nothing to improve an offense that was near the bottom in runs scored or a bullpen that was absolutely God-awful. They added Jason Marquis to...

Jamey Carroll’s hitless start to the season made his son cry

Wednesday night at Target Field marked several firsts: The Twins beat the Angels for their first win of the season, and Jamey Carroll went 2-for-4 for his first hits of the season. Carroll’s second hit of the game was a tie-breaking single to help the Twins beat the Angels 6-5. The best part about the hit was that it helped the Twins win, but the second-best part is that it should...

Pujols will always be a part of St. Louis

MINNEAPOLIS I don't remember his first major league at-bat, a groundout on April 2, 2001, when he played left field for the Cardinals in Colorado, or his first hit just five innings later. I can't pinpoint the first time I watched him play, which sticky St. Louis night 13-year-old me first penciled the name Albert Pujols onto her scorecard, and perhaps that's because...

Angels' Kohn to miss rest of season

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Michael Kohn needs elbow ligament-replacement surgery and will miss the rest of the season.. The Angels made the announcement on Wednesday after Kohn visited orthopedist Dr. James Andrews. Kohn is scheduled to have the surgery on Thursday. Kohn was shut down with elbow discomfort in spring training, but started a throwing program last week in hopes...

Garrett Richards toed the slab for the Bees, and he threw a beauty. Richards worked into the 7th, going 6.1 innings, conceding just 1 run and punching out 8. The most impressive stat for Richards was...

Los Angeles Angels Prospect Report - 4-11-12

By Scott Stedman - AngelsWin.com Prospect Reporter Salt Lake Bees: The Bees blew out the Reno Aces, 11-3 on a night in which snow was falling on the field.  Matt Shoemaker started for the Bees and turned in a productive start - 5.1 innings, 2 runs, 3 strikeouts.  Shokemaker has only walked 2 batters in his 11.1 innings so far this year.  Offensively, things...

Bourjos hits inside-the-park HR vs. Twins

Los Angeles Angels speedster Peter Bourjos hit an inside-the-park home run against the Minnesota Twins. After the Angels fell behind 3-1 in the fourth inning, Bourjos came to the plate with two on and two out in the fifth. He hit a rocket to left on the first pitch, and Josh Willingham slammed into the wall trying to track it down. As center fielder Denard Span came over to pick...

Game Recap 4/12/12: The Bullpen of Perpetual Sorrow - Twins 10, Angels 9

In 2010, it was the Bullpen of Doom.  In 2011, it was the Blowpen.  In 2012, we are proud (and by proud, we mean emotionally crushed) to introduce the Bullpen of Perpetual Sorrow. Twins 10, Angels 9 Not even 24 hours after Mike Scioscia mishandled the Angel bullpen to cost the Halos a game, the relievers took matters into their own hands.  Hisanori Takahashi, who was actually...

Tater Trot Tracker: Trot Times for April 11 by Larry Granillo

The rest of Wednesday’s trots will come later in the afternoon. In the meantime, the night’s quickest home run was just too exciting not to share immediately. Angels fans will probably know why. Home Run of the Day: Peter Bourjos, Los Angeles Angels – 14.26 seconds [video] There's no denying that's Peter Bourjos is a fast man. Last year, the Angels outfielder made...
