Twins CF Ben Revere channels his inner Willie Mays to make incredible over-the-shoulder basket catch
Minnesota centerfielder Ben Revere showed off his stellar defensive skills against the Red Sox this past Sunday, as he tracked down a Jarrod Saltalamacchia drive in the bottom of the seventh to rob the Boston catcher of extra bases. Revere then whirled and fired the ball back to the infield, doubling up Adrian Gonzalez to end the inning.
While maybe not on the same level as Willie Mays’ amazing catch in the 1954 World Series, Revere’s snag was still mighty impressive. But it was all for naught as the slick outfielder’s Twins suffered another loss in an otherwise abysmal season, falling to the Red Sox 6-4.
When you’re as bad as the Twins are, it’s all about finding that silver lining. This catch by Ben Revere was it, for one game at least.
