Fox Sports North:
The Minnesota Twins announced on Friday that they have placed pitchers Scott Diamond and Anthony Swarzak on the 15-day disabled list.
Diamond, who was Minnesotas best starting pitcher in 2012, has been rehabbing his left elbow after having offseason surgery in December. He has yet to pitch in an official Grapefruit League game this spring. When Diamond returns from the DL possibly in April hes expected to slide into the rotation. He was 12-9 with a 3.54 ERA in 27 starts last year.
Swarzak injured his ribs during a non-baseball related activity in late January. Like Diamond, he has yet to pitch in a spring training game this year. He appeared in 44 games last season, mostly in relief. Swarzak is pegged to return to the Twins bullpen again this season.
The Twins also optioned outfielder Joe Benson and pitcher Pedro Hernandez to Triple-A Rochester on Friday. Benson was a candidate to earn a spot on the 25-man roster as Minnesotas center fielder, but he was beat out by Aaron Hicks. In 18 spring training games, Benson hit just .151 with one home run and three RBI in 53 at-bats.
Right-hander Luis Perdomo was also reassigned to minor league camp on Friday.

Cold Weather Carew
The Twins are set to open their 2013 season against the Detroit Tigers at home in front of a, hopefully, sold out crowd. Although the weather is 25 degrees outside my window right now, the 10 day forecast from Fox 9 News shows 54 degrees and cloudy with a chance of showers on April 1st.
This should offer some hope that the Twins will actually get this home...
The Twins, they do things differently. One veteran player still can't believe that the team essentially fired bench coach Scott Ulger and hitting coach Joe Vavra at the end of last season ... then turned around and made Ulger the first-base coach and Vavra the third-base coach.
Hey, this is an outfit that fired Bill Smith as general manager after the 2011 season ... then rehired...

FORT MYERS, Fla. There has been a buzz of excitement this spring training at the Lee County Sports Complex, and it has had as much, if not more, to do with the scene on the minor league side of camp as in the big-league clubhouse.
As the Minnesota Twins prepare to return home from spring training, an arsenal of, at last count, 165...
Happy basketball day part 2! May today go a bit more smoothly than yesterday.
Fangraphs is the first place I’ve seen that doesn’t rate Miguel Sano as the Twins’ top prospect.
You have to dig deep during the tournament.
And another awful GIF from day one of the tournament. Ouch.
Lots of basketball, no important teams.
