The Minnesota Twins are shaking up their starting rotation. After giving up eight runs on Wednesday in an 8-3 loss to Atlanta, right-hander Vance Worley was optioned to Triple-A Rochester. With the loss to the Braves, Worley fell to 1-5 with a 7.21 ERA this season. Minnesota did not announce a corresponding roster move, although there are a few pitching options at Rochester that the Twins could call up. Many were expecting right-hander Kyle Gibson to get the call when Pedro Hernandez was optioned, but instead it was Samuel Deduno being recalled to start Friday in Detroit. The 25-year-old Gibson remains an option to take Worleys spot, as does right-hander P.J. Walters, who is 4-2 with a 3.31 ERA with Rochester this year. The Twins acquired Worley along with minor league pitcher Trevor May from Philadelphia this offseason in exchange for center fielder Ben Revere. The hope was that Worley could help solidify a shaky rotation, but so far hes done the exact opposite. Wednesday marked his 10th start of the year, and it was one of his worst yet as he gave up eight runs on 10 hits including a grand slam in just 3 23 innings. Worley pitched into the seventh inning just one this year. Prior to joining the Twins this year, Worley spent his first three seasons with the Phillies. He finished third in the National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2011 but was 6-9 with a 4.20 ERA in 23 starts last year. Follow Tyler Mason on Twitter.
