The Atlanta Braves' pitching staff has been pretty stingy lately, and that may bode well heading into a series against a slumping Minnesota Twins team that's struggling to score. Atlanta seeks to win a fourth straight game while dealing visiting Minnesota a sixth consecutive defeat Monday night. The Braves (25-18) had lost five of six going into the weekend, but completed a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 5-2 victory Sunday, scoring four runs in the eighth inning. Mike Minor struck out nine and the bullpen pitched three scoreless innings, giving Atlanta a 2.25 ERA over its last six contests. "We lost a lot of games we felt we should have won," Minor said. "We came back in another one from behind and got the sweep." The Braves overcame late deficits in all three games, outscoring the Dodgers 13-2 from the sixth inning on. "We've been slow out of the gate as an offense (over the last three games), and (the pitching staff has) been able to keep us in the ballgame and keep runs off the board," said left fielder Justin Upton, 3 for 18 in his last five. "That's important in giving us a shot to win." Julio Teheran (2-1, 4.57 ERA), who has posted a 2.84 ERA over his last four outings after getting off to a rough start to the season, will look to continue the trend. He gave up two runs in six innings Tuesday but lost 2-0 to Arizona. "He's making adjustments in the middle of the game and he's making changes when he needs to. That's a good sign," catcher Gerald Laird told the team's official website. The right-hander, who suffered his first defeat since falling to Philadelphia in his major league debut May 5, 2011, had gotten 18 runs of support in his previous four starts. Teheran has never faced Minnesota and his only start versus an AL opponent was a short one, as he gave up four runs in 4 1-3 innings of a 12-4 loss to Toronto on June 10. The Twins (18-22) have been struggling offensively, though, getting outscored 33-14 during their skid. Joe Mauer had his 15-game hitting streak snapped in a 5-1 loss to Boston on Sunday. "We didn't really come up with key hits when we needed to or when we wanted to," said outfielder Chris Parmelee, 1 for 13 in his last four. "It's tough to win a ballgame when you don't have any clutch hits." Minnesota went 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position. "These games, they happen throughout the season and it's something you've got to deal with," said third baseman Trevor Plouffe, who had two of the Twins' five hits to extend his hitting streak to six. The Twins' Kevin Correia (4-3, 3.35) is looking to snap out of a funk. The right-hander went 3-1 with a 2.23 ERA in his first five starts but has posted a 5.71 ERA in three outings this month. He allowed four runs and nine hits in seven innings of a 4-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, giving up the go-ahead runs in the eighth before exiting. The right-hander has been solid in his last four starts versus the Braves, going 3-1 with a 2.35 ERA. He gave up one run in 6 2-3 innings of a 5-1 win while pitching for Pittsburgh the last time he faced them Oct. 2.

More Spice in Braves Starting Line-Up

Braves right fielder Jason Heyward If variety is the spice of life, then as a Braves fan you have to love manager Fredi Gonzalez‘s line-up selections.  They are rarely the same two days in a row. The left-handed hitting Jordan Schafer will start in center field and bat lead-off today against Dodgers’ right-hander, Matt Nagli.  Schafer is hitting .302 on the season, with a ...

Braves enjoying role of comeback kids

ATLANTA There are two ways to view the Braves' weekend sweep of the Dodgers: The pessimist might point out how Atlanta encountered a deficit heading into the sixth inning all three games, an odd sight for a first-place, home-standing club taking on a last-place team seemingly on the road to nowhere. The optimist would characterize Sunday's comeback victory where the Braves...

Braves sweep Dodgers, Twins up next

It’s safe to say that the Atlanta Braves put their horrid road trip behind them with a home sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers. And the timing could not have been better given the blows to the Braves of late, especially in their injury decimated bullpen. Before a rundown of the injuries the Braves are currently faced with, the line scores from the 3-game set against the Dodgers:...

Atlanta Braves Place P Eric O’Flaherty On 15 Day DL

The Atlanta Braves have placed left-handed pitcher Eric O’Flaherty on the 15-day disabled list. MRI’s show that he tore his ulnar collateral ligament, which generally leads to Tommy John surgery. He is scheduling an appointment with Dr. James Andrews next week and probably done for the year. This isn’t great news for the Braves, as Flaherty has been pitching well this season...

Three Cuts: Braves rally again to finish off sweep of Dodgers

ATLANTA -- Gerald Laird hadn't played in five days; Chris Johnson was getting a day off. But with the bases loaded, the two came in as pinch-hitters, delivering RBI singles -- along with Ramiro Pena -- in a four-run eighth inning as the Braves rallied for a rain-delayed 5-2 win over the Dodgers. "We've won a lot of games with the long ball but today we put some balls...

Braves place Eric O’Flaherty on DL with UCL tear

The Atlanta Braves placed left-handed reliever Eric O’Flaherty on the disabled list yesterday due to a strained elbow. Jake 'The Snake' does 7th inning stretch

In case you were wondering...yes, that was WWE legend Jake Roberts on the mic treating the Atlanta Braves crowd to "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". In what I can only imagine was an attempt to prove he was still alive (because he sure as Hell isn't relevant), "The Snake" grabbed the microphone Friday night and started singing.  And as you might expect, the...

Gerald Laird will start tonight and hit fifth Always interesting to see what the Braves line-up will be on a game-to-game basis.  Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez is always good for a surprise or two. Braves Salaries Complicate Playing Decisions

The Braves first two weeks of the season started as well as anyone could have hoped.  Since that time, Atlanta is 13-17, and has had some big time struggles. I understand that teams are going to have struggles during the year, and players aren’t always going to hit well all the time.  In the Braves’ case though, it is much more than just a slump. People have talked at great...

Jason Heyward Respects Matt Kemp’s Home Run Robbing Catch

Jason Heyward of the Atlanta Braves got absolutely robbed of a home run on Saturday night by an incredible defensive catch made by Matt Kemp. Kemp was able to time his jump perfectly to snag the ball just before it made its way over the left-center wall. Instead of being frustrated or angry, Heyward pulled a classy move and gave Kemp tip of the helmet. Game respect game. [BLS...

Chopcast: Braves bullpen injuries present issues

ATLANTA The effect of the injuries to Jonny Venters and Eric O'Flaherty, along with multiple other Braves relievers to a lesser extent, is yet to be determined. For now, Atlanta's bullpen is in a bit of a bind.
