In a post to Twitter, Tommy Ortega asked, “If he’s available, who would you give up for Joey Votto? Though I guess it all depends if Reyes re-signs or not.” Matthew Cerrone: “Actually, I wouldn’t trade for Votto. In case you missed it, earlier this week, ESPN’s Buster Olney said the Reds will listen to offers for Votto, though rival executives have told him it is not likely to happen. Similarly, yesterday, Reds GM Walt Jocketty said: ”We haven’t talked about (trading Votto). I wish that people would stop writing it. Why would we trade one of the best players in the game? We’re trying to win.” Votto will cost a lot in trade, and it’s not like the Mets are one or two pieces away from contending for a World Series. They have a question mark hanging over every single postion. Votto is a terrific player. He’s one of the best young hitters in the game. But, to trade multiple top prospects to get him would be shortsighted. Votto will earn $9.5 million in 2012 and $17 million in 2013, a
