Found June 26, 2013 on Redlegs Review:
On Wednesday, Major League Baseball unveiled the names of the 50 players who will participate in the  15th annual Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game next month. Two of those prospects playing in the showcase affair will be from the Reds organization. The first is outfielder Billy Hamilton who will be making his second consecutive appearance in the prestigious game. Hamilton is currently ranked as the No. 10 prospect on MLB.com's Top 100 Prospect list and will play for the United States Team. Hamilton showed off his tremendous speed in last year's game by legging out a triple. Through 73 games this season, Hamilton was batting .243 with 26 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He's drawn 24 walks, and the 22-year-old speedster had also stolen 48 bases in 56 attempts. Hamilton has been in the Reds organization since 2009 after being selected in the second round of the draft. The second prospect to represent Cincinnati in the game is right-handed pitcher Carlos Contreras. The...

Brandon Phillips away from team due to private matter

The Reds will be without the services of All-Star second basemen Brandon Phillips for at least Tuesday's game in Oakland after it was announced that he was away from the team because of a personal matter. Upon further review, it appears as though that personal matter has to do with impending fatherhood, as the transactions page on MLB.com currently lists Phillips on paternity...

After almost two months recovering from a hamstring issue, Chris Heisey has been activated and is back in the lineup as the designated hitter against the Oakland A’s tonight. Heisey had been playing games with the AAA Louisville Bats for the last week, going 4 for 20. “I felt really good at the plate,” he said. “I didn’t have the results to show for it, but I hit some balls...

Keith Law tabs two Reds as 'real All-Stars'

Believe it or not, the All-Star Game is less than three weeks away, which means fan voting for the star-studded event will be nearing a close soon. The debate about which players deserve to play in the game will likely rage on well after the voting results have been released. It's just a matter of opinion, and fans being fans, I suppose. But one baseball expert has...

Reds continue to suck out west

The Cincinnati Reds were swept by the Oakland A’s in their two-game series, the exact opposite of that great 1990 World Series. The loss drops the Reds’ record on the road trip out west to 1-4. There were no stars of the game for the Reds. It was a terrible, uninspired, and boring game from start to finish. Homer Bailey got the loss, giving up 4 runs over 6 innings. He struck...

Hoping a day off fixes what ails the Reds

Yesterday, the Cincinnati Reds didn’t play baseball. At least, I assume they didn’t. With them being on their first west coast trip of the season, the games start so late that I could easily miss them. The Reds have been struggling lately, which is never how you want to see them when they’re heading out west. My, there’ve been some seasons lost out west. That won’t happen...

Reds continue to waste Aroldis Chapman

We’ve created a mythical moment. Music plays. Three outs remain in the ninth. And a tall, imposing man with a missile for an arm enters the game. He’s the closer. He’s here to bring an end to this madness –to bring a win to the team hanging on his every pitch. Now, it’s time to bring an end to the myth of the closer. In 1960, the incredible baseball writer Jerome Holtzman...

Series Preview: Oakland A’s Host Cincinnati Reds in Two-Game Interleague Set

The Oakland A’s will try to get back on track tonight against the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a short two-game interleague series in Oakland. Bob Melvin’s squad went 2-5 on a seven-game jaunt through Texas and Seattle, losing the final two games to the Mariners in particularly frustrating fashion. For whatever reason, Seattle seems to have Oakland’s number this season...

Interleague Play Continues, A’s Take Game One From Reds

The Oakland Athletics (45-34) haven’t faced the National League’s Cincinnati Reds (45-33) since June of 2010 in Oakland. That last meeting was disastrous for the A’s as they were swept in a three-game series. This time around, it was another story as the A’s took game one of a two game series 7-3, giving Pat Neshek his second win of the season. There was no backing down against...
