Found April 10, 2012 on Mets Merized Online:
Take eight Mike Pelfrey strikeouts to match a career high, one Kirk Nieuwenhuis game-tying homer and a dash of ninth-inning drama culminating in Daniel Murphy’s walk-off single vs. the Nats. Add it up, and behold a 4-0 Mets start. Game Recap Mike Pelfrey started off the first game of home series against the Nationals. Surprisingly he did better than I thought he would. The big man lasted 5.2 innings of decent pitching allowing a pretty high 10 hits but only allowing three runs to show for it. He walked one batter and struck out a career high eight batters. He threw 104 pitches and continues to be a groundout pitcher, relying mostly on his defense to bail him out. His sinker was the big concern of his and it actually had some sink on it finally and was able to get batters to ground into double plays and accounted six groundouts in his start. Pelfrey’s first start leaves him with a 4.76 ERA and a no decision. Batista finished the sixth inning for Pelfrey with a strikeout. But after...

Mike Pelfrey had an outstanding game last night, really

Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit his first major league home run and Daniel Murphy made two key plays in the ninth inning but the big story from Monday night was the performance of Mike Pelfrey. At first glance that might seem odd, as Pelfrey gave up 10 hits and three runs and needed help to finish six innings. But it was still an encouraging outing from a guy that the Mets need a big year...

Mike Pelfrey Must Find His Way In 2012

The man on everyone's last nerve, Mike Pelfrey, is the Mets infamous underachiever.  Once a well though of prospect with ace level potential, Pelfrey has never been able to to figure himself out for any extended length of time.  I say himself because he has the stuff to be a very good pitcher in this league.  In fact, at one point Pelfrey may have had the stuff necessary to...

Will Pelfrey Keep The Mets Rolling?

One of baseball’s most popular cliches is pitching is contagious, both good and bad. Tonight against Washington, Mike Pelfrey, who struggled during spring training  will attempt to follow up the Mets’ strong showing from its rotation in his first appearance of the season. The Mets have been here before with Pelfrey, and your guess is as good as anybody as to how he’ll come...

Lets Hold Off On All The Accolades For Pelfrey

I think some Met fans are making way too much of Mike Pelfrey’s pitching performance last night. In fact he was one bad call from an ump away from being a complete disaster. And even so, Pelfrey now owns the worst ERA on the team with a 4.76 mark. It’s familiar territory for Pelfrey who had the worst ERA last season, and again this Spring. Pelfrey allowed 10 hits and a walk...

Reaction: Mike Pelfrey Was...Okay!

When combing through Mike Pelfrey's stat line from last night, its important to do so with a grain of salt.  Mike has much more to accomplish than just winning baseball games.  He needs to earn the trust of both the organization and its fanbase.  Pelfrey took a step in the right direction last night. When reviewing Pelfrey's 5.2 innings pitched last night, what he didn...

Who Will Show Up Tonight?

First of all, I am well aware that Mike Pelfrey’s pitching, so I didn’t mean the question so literally. The answer? We will all find out at 7:10 p.m. tonight. Mike Pelfrey, who I look at as kind of a modern day Oliver Perez who throws right handed, will take the hill tonight against those pesky Washington Nationals, who many say may have one of the best pitching staffs in the...

Pelfrey and Gee: Fast Starts are a Must

Mike Pelfrey and Dillon Gee in Spring Training Over the weekend, Santana, Dickey, and Niese pitched excellent against the Atlanta Braves. Over the next two days, both Dillon Gee and Mike Pelfrey are scheduled to make their 2012 season debuts. Seeing that AAA Buffalo currently has four right-handed pitchers in the fold waiting for a chance, it is essential that both Mike Pelfrey...

Game Preview: Nationals @ Mets

The Mets got off to a strong start over the weekend as the Mets swept the Braves to open the 2012 season. During the three game stretch, the Mets bats hit double digit hits in two games in a row and the Francisco saved three consecutive games. The Nationals also got off to a strong start as they went 2-1, with two come back wins. Today Mike Pelfrey will get his first start of the...

The Slate is Still Clean, and Hilarious!

When you look at the April schedule, you realize how important it is for the Mets to get off to a fast start. Between all the divisional games to kick it off, and the Giants and the Rockies, April came in like a lion for this team ... this team with seemingly a few more than 99 problems. So far, so good. 4-0 for the New York Mets is being treated like a big deal. It shows you how...

MURPHY PUSHES METS TO 4-0

Mike "My Hand Sure is Yummy" Pelfrey didn't have his best stuff tonight but did something we don't often see from the Yeti in orange and blue-he battled, even after the Nats went up 3-0. David Wright drove in a run to cut the lead to 2. The big space blast came from captain Kirk Nieuwenhuis when he tied the game at 3 with a 2 run jack. The Mets' new found pen...
