Travis Blackley doesn't have the international star power of Yu Darvish, but the international showdown Sunday night in Texas sure favored the Australian.

The Oakland A's beat the Texas Rangers 3-1, and Blackley gave up one run in seven innings compared with Darvish's three runs in seven innings.

What a difference in offseasons for these two.

Blackley had no job until the Giants called in mid-February and offered him a minor-league contract.

Darvish was one of the hottest commodities in the game, with the Rangers paying a $51.7 million posting fee to the Nippon Ham Fighters and $60 million for a six-year contract to Darvish.

Blackley was designed for assignment by the Giants, signed off waivers by the A's and inserted into the rotation in late May. He's 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA over his last four starts.

"The A's stuck their neck out and give me a crack," Blackley said. "I'm just enjoying it here. It's comfortable. A lot of guys who get along very well."

Perhaps Blackley's biggest out came with a runner at third and two outs in the sixth inning. Josh Hamilton popped to short on what Blackley called a "floatin', hangin' changeup -- he hadn't seen one from me all day."

The A's handed Darvish his first home loss after seven straight wins.
