The two most explosive offenses in baseball were rather quite in Game 1 of the Word Series as the St. Louis Cardinals took a 1-0 series lead over the Texas Rangers with a 3-2 victory. It was a strange game for the Rangers; reliever Alexi Ogando gave up a key hit for the first time this season while Texas only managed six hits. Texas manager Ron Washington took some gambles with inexperienced players and lost. Now Texas trails the Fall Classic 1-0. Only four Rangers recorded a hit in the game, a very unusual statistic for Texas. Five of the Rangers’ six hits and both their runs came against Cardinals starting pitcher Chris Carpenter. However, Texas only managed one hit against the entire St. Louis bullpen and it proved costly. The reason was the close calls and miscues for the Rangers in the field. Texas starter C.J.
