Just call him Mr. Clutch or as our own Daniel Nelson likes to refer to him, “El Dramatico”. Yes, of course we’re talking about the incredible Jordany Valdespin who came off the bench once again and delivered another dramatic pinch-hit home run to help the Mets beat the Marlins 7-6 and salvage the final game of the series. Valdespin continues to display an uncanny ability for rising to the occasion whenever the Mets need a big hit, and in the last two seasons, no player in baseball has delivered more pinch-hit home runs than El Dramatico. His five pinch-hit homers last season set a franchise record, and only one month into the season he’s already launched his second big knock of the year. The Mets were trailing by three when David Wright opened the sixth with a leadoff double. Marlon Byrd followed with an RBI single and after another Ike Davis single, Valdespin took reliever A.J. Ramos deep with three-run homer. It was incredible and even more so was watching Spin pumping his fist as...

Mets Wrap: Jordany Valdespin Homer Stops Slide

Well, the Mets weren’t going to lose them all. Jordany Valdespin, whose personality would be ideal for an NBA point guard, hit a three-run pinch-hit home run in the sixth inning to lift the Mets to a 7-6 victory to snap a six-game losing streak. “We got some offense going,’’ manager Terry Collins said. “The most frustrating thing about the past six days is we’ve been...

Jordany Valdespin: Pinch-Hitting Extraordinaire

The New York Mets have a weapon, and that weapon's name is Jordany Valdespin.  The 25 year old made his MLB debut last season and has been belting clutch homeruns ever since.  In his brief career (117 games), he's blasted 6 pinch-hit homeruns in 58 plate appearances.  That's 1 pinch-hit homerun for every 10 pinch-hitting opportunities.  His pinch-hitting OPS is .842...

Montero Tagged For Ten Runs In 11-4 B-Mets Loss

Erie 11, Binghamton 4 The Erie SeaWolves tagged Rafael Montero for ten runs on ten hits and handed the Binghamton Mets an 11-4 loss on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Francisco Pena collected three hits and drove in two runs in the losing effort. The B-Mets were in control for the first three innings. Binghamton grabbed the lead in the second against Erie starter Victor Larez....

Mets Frustrate Yet Again In Loss To Marlins

What can be said about last night’s Mets game that hasn’t already been said about my high school prom. It was long, nobody could score and it turned out to be a huge waste of time. They say hindsight is 20/20, but my foresight in this one wasn’t so bad either. There were a few poor decisions that were easily predictable. I’m still flabbergasted by Terry Collins’ inexplicable...

Matt Harvey Named National League Pitcher of the Month

Matt Harvey was named the Pitcher of the Month for April, the first Met to win the honor since R.A. Dickey last did so in June, 2012. Harvey, 24, went 4-0 with a 1.56 ERA and 46 strikeouts in six April starts. His four wins tied for the National League lead, while his 1.56 ERA is third in the league for the month. His 46 strikeouts are tied for fourth in the league. Harvey became...

Old Time Mets: Remembering Ray Sadecki

Anyone out there remember Ray Sadecki? He was a starter/reliever for the Mets from 1970-1974 and was the kind of pitcher the Mets could actually use right now because of his effectiveness in that role. They could have also used Sadecki in 2007 or 2008, which is when I chose his name on the LoHud blog when John Delcos was running the site before Howard Megdal. Those two seasons will...

Terry Collins Feels Guilty About Johan Santana’s Injury

Johan Santana will always be remembered by Mets fans.  He has a certain spot in the history of the franchise for throwing the club’s first and only no-hitter (until Matt Harvey throws one). Not a single Mets fan regrets the decision that Terry Collins made to keep Santana in.  He threw a career high 134 pitches in the game and was far from perfect, but he got what everyone wanted...

Panteliodis Solid In Debut, But St. Lucie Still Loses 3-2

Fort Myers 3, St. Lucie 2 The Fort Myers Miracle edged out the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday, on a night where Alex Panteliodis made his FSL debut. Pants was able to provide five effective innings in his season debut and first start off the DL, where he allowed an earned run off just four hits and a walk. His only blemish was allowing a solo home run in the fourth inning, and otherwise...

A Temporary End To Endless Exasperation

I have had this picture in my mind when it comes to the New York Mets over the last few years. Don't bother running a Google Image search for it, because it doesn't exist except for in my head. I picture David Wright in the dugout, looking at the camera with the most exasperated look on his face as if to say "you're going to make me go out there again", or ...

Jordany Valdepsin Enjoys Sex In The Shower

#PapiValdy is at it again. twitter.com/RageWynn/statu… — RageWynn (@RageWynn) April 30, 2013 I’m sure that the Mets player that is his roommate on the road has got some amazing stories to tell already. The post Jordany Valdepsin Enjoys Sex In The Shower appeared first on The Daily Stache.

Zack Wheeler, Contextually

Is it time to worry about Zack Wheeler? No, it's not. I know it's not a good way to hold the reader's attention to give the answer at the top. But I've never been into one singular form to translate into function. But all this hullabaloo about Zack Wheeler is useless. Bottom line is that Wheeler's stats in Las Vegas mean nothing, and we knew that going...
