ANAHEIM, CA – The Angels Tuesday traded outfielder Vernon Wells to the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder Exicardo Cayones, LHP Kramer Sneed and cash considerations. Today’s transaction was announced by General Manager Jerry Dipoto.
Cayones, 21, spent the 2012 season playing for New York’s Single-A Staten Island Yankees. The outfielder posted a .228 (36/158) clip last season, logged 15 RBI and made just one error in 47 games for the short season Yankees. Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Pirates in 2008, Cayones was acquired by the Yankees as part of the A.J. Burnett trade with Pittsburgh prior to the 2012 campaign. Over four minor league seasons, the Valencia, Venezuela native owns a .261 (164/629) batting average with 99 runs scored and 83 RBI.
Sneed, 24, spent the 2012 campaign with Class-A Tampa in the Florida State League and posted an 0-7 record with a 5.37 ERA (63.2 IP – 38 ER) and 49 stri...
BEST OF MAXIM
We are all a fan of some team. Even the self-proclaimed objective journalists grew up rooting for someone. It’s simple human nature. I’m an Angels fan, and as such I don’t have a great deal of love for the Yankees. So it would make sense that I love the Vernon Wells trade. It removes an unproductive player from my favorite team and inserts him into the lineup...
TEMPE, Ariz. The Angels finalized their trade of Vernon Wells to the New York Yankees on Tuesday after the veteran outfielder passed a physical and the commissioners office approved the cash being exchanged in the deal.
The Angels will pay 28.1 million of the remaining 42 million on Wells contract, which runs through 2014, meaning the Yankees will pick up 13.9 million of the deal...
On his first day with the New York Yankees, Vernon Wells recalled a game in the International League more than a decade ago and he saw Darryl Strawberry in uniform for the opposition.
''I remember the first time I played the Triple-A Yankees, when I was 20 years old,'' he said Tuesday. ''It was the first that I actually got goosebumps playing against another...
Vernon Wells is definitely excited about joining the New York Yankees.
Within two hours of Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi reporting the veteran outfielder , currently with the Los Angeles Angels, in on the verge of a deal to land in the Bronx as a new member of the Yankees, Wells tweeted:
Thankful and Blessed!

Vernon Wells is gone but he won't be forgotten, though most of us probably want to. In the interest of fairness to a player who was universally maligned from almost the exact second he was acquired, let's take an exhaustive look at the highlights of his Angel career:
June 28th, 2011 against the Nationals - Vernon went 4-for-5 with a homer, a double, three runs scored...
Desperate times calls for desperate measures, and make no mistakes about it, this is a move of desperation by the New York Yankees.
Earlier, we reported that Yankees shortstop and captain Derek Jeter, will almost certainly miss the beginning of the season because he has yet to fully recover from a broken ankle he suffered in the postseason late last year.
The Bronx Bombers are...
I’ve already speculated that, when Brian Cashman broke his ankle skydiving March 4, that maybe he also unknowingly hit his head, because some of his moves and intentions this spring have been, well, questionable, if not downright nuts.
After the Yankees general manager acquired Angels outfielder Vernon Wells on Monday, I’m almost sure Cashman must’ve hit his head.
In the latest episode of Podcast with a Halo, we deliver the definitive eulogy for Vernon Wells' career, debate Nick Maronde's transition to relief, fret over the big league pitching staff and fear another miserable April. Other than that, this episode is a real upper!

I can’t remember the last time a front office admitted to actually being desperate. Even if everybody knows that the front office is desperate, the front office has a vested interest in issuing denials, since no one wants to be taken advantage of. Brian Cashman and the Yankees, I’m sure, would say they haven’t been desperate lately, even despite all the Yankees’ injuries...

In order to make room for Vernon Wells on the 40-man roster, the Yankees have released infielder David Adams, according to WFAN’s Sweeny Murti.
Adams, 25, was originally drafted by the Tigers in 2005 but didn’t sign. In 2008, the Yankees took him in the third round. Last year, Adams hit .306 with eight homers and 48 RBIs in 86 games. Overall in his five years...
