Once again, the Orioles have signed yet another veteran reliever to provide depth in the organization...
From the Orioles.com:
BALTIMORE -- The Orioles have agreed to terms on a Minor League contract with veteran reliever J.C. RomerThe Orioles have agreed to terms on a Minor League contract with veteran reliever J.C. Romero, the club announced on Thursday, and Romero is expected to report to Triple-A Norfolk.

Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette said Tuesday that the club was still actively seeking ways to upgrade and add depth to the pitching staff, and Romero fills a need: another lefty reliever to go along with Zach Philips. The O's bullpen currently has two lefties in Troy Patton and Dana Eveland.
Romero previously pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies from 2007-11, posting a combined 2.73 ERA along with notable postseason success in '08. He was suspended for the first 50 games of 2009 for taking a banned supplement, and was released by the Phillies in 2011.
Romero then latched on with Minor League deals for the Washington Nationals, New York Yankees and Colorado Rockies -- with whom he pitched to a 4.32 ERA in 11 big league games -- before making the Cardinals this spring.
In 14 Major League seasons, Romero is 34-28 with a 4.15 ERA.
Ok, Romero perhaps is very close to the end of his solid career. Obviously, he would provide some depth in the minors and could be summoned to the majors in case of injury or whatever.

Matusz Turning the Corner?

Brian Matusz has been on a roller coaster since his first day in the big leagues. We have seen the young southpaw go from once highly touted prospect that would soon be the ace of the Orioles pitching staff to injury prone bust and now a bottom end of the rotation guy who could either implode or hurl a gem on any given night. I have always liked Brian Matusz and wished success for...

Orioles bring up Pomeranz, Paulino

The Baltimore Orioles announced that they recalled right-hander Stu Pomeranz and catcher Ronny Paulino from Class AAA Norfolk, optioned catcher Luis Exposito to Norfolk and designated infielder/outfielder Bill Hall for assignment. Pomeranz has not allowed an earned run in 10 appearances this season in the minors, combining 23 1/3 innings between Norfolk and Class AA Bowie. Paulino...

Oriole Farm System Sporting Six-Man Rotations

According to MASNSports.com's Steve Melewski, the Orioles are implementing six-man rotations in their farm system from AA down:The Orioles seem to really like the fact that their starters can get two bullpen or side sessions between starts in a six-man and feel that is a good way right now for some of their young hurlers to get their work in and make improvements to their game...

Thoughts on Adam Jones and a contract extension

This afternoon, Adam Jones spoke to the media. While reports throughout the day have Jones and his representation, plus the team coming to a contract extension, the center-fielder says a deal isn't forthcoming.Whether or not that's true, who really knows. I'm sure a deal has been in the works for a while; however, the news of this all came out within the last day...

Cardinals pushing on despite injuries

ST. LOUIS The hits started coming in Spring Training and they haven't stopped since. It's as if the baseball Gods wanted the Cardinals to try and prove last year's World Series title was no fluke by giving them a stiffer challenge. Hit with a rash of injuries that included their fifth player being placed on the disabled list in the past week Tuesday, the Cardinals continued...

Dylan Bundy: The Orioles can't miss prospect who'll remind you of Todd Marinovich

The Baltimore Orioles drafted pitcher Dylan Bundy fourth overall in the 2011 draft where he was reported to have hit 100mph here and there while at Owasso High (OK). Sean Gregory updates: "...to... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

On Roberts and his attempt to return to O's

This is a piece I wrote for MASN Sports this morning. I've got a feeling this is going to be a hot topic for quite a while. *** As we all know, veteran Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts returned to competitive baseball last night as he played three innings for the Double-A Bowie Baysox last night. Roberts is playing for the Baysox as part of a rehabilitation assignment...

How Many AL East Teams Will Finish This Year Above .500?

The American League east divison is always one of the most competitive divisons in baseball. This year all five teams have a record of .500 or better with the Baltimore Orioles in first place. Runs have been a plenty, as every teams run differentials are in the positive. The leaders of the pack are the Baltimore Orioles, who have a 28-17 record. After finishing last in the divsion...

Adam Jones Deal Done

This evening during the game, MASN's Roch Kubatko reported the news that many fans were awaiting -- Adam Jones' contract extension is now official. It was only a matter of time before a deal was done, and the day came. Jones and the Baltimore Orioles agreed to a six-year, $85.5 million contract extension according to the Baltimore Sun. As reported by the local media, the...

Soldier surprises girlfriend with proposal

ST. LOUIS Shelby Fetsch rushes from the mound into the arms of the love of her life. For her, everything that follows becomes a blur: the cheers at Busch Stadium, the pictures, the congratulations from strangers, the joy that comes with knowing she and her boyfriend specialist William Johanson-Kubin of the 463rd Military Police Company are now engaged. Fetsch's hands shake...

Orioles, Jones finalize extension

The extension that Brian wrote about this morning between the Baltmore Orioles and Adam Jones is apparently just about done. CBS's Jon Heyman is reporting that the deal will be for six years and a whopping $85.5 million. My initial thought about the deal is "wow, that's a lot of money". An average of $14.25 million a year for Adam Jones? That's crazy. While...

Royals-Orioles Preview

The Baltimore Orioles were happy to have a day off after a grueling stretch, but an off day probably isn't good news for the Kansas City Royals. The Orioles have won all four games after not playing the day before heading into Friday night's opener of a three-game home set against a Royals team that has struggled following time off. Baltimore (28-17) dropped two of three...

Phillies-Cardinals Preview

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in last season's NL division series before going on to win their 11th World Series. The Cardinals try for a 13th...

Phillies 4, Cardinals 0

By Rob Rains, The Sports Xchange ST. LOUIS -- Kyle Kendrick came into Saturday night's start for the Philadelphia Phillies with an 0-4 record, a 5.23 ERA and the knowledge that he was facing the best offensive team in the National League. That's not a combination which would have prompted many to predict he would pitch the first shutout of his major-league career. The...
