Veterans over Evans...

I thought it was interesting that Adam Rubin the other day completed a post on his early 25 man roster predictions, Adam thought the Mets may carry Nick Evans for the first week and then call-up Livan Hernandez as the fifth starter when needed. They could actually carry a sixth bench player even longer if they allowed the longman to make two starts in April.But the Mets went through this two years ago when Lastings Milledge had a very good spring and they rewarded him with the last spot on the roster. Milledge ended up riding the bench and the Mets felt like it was a waste of critical developmental time. Evans would be in a similar situation to Milledge so I believe if they carry a sixth bench player it will be a veteran. Cory Sullivan and Jeremy Reed both have options so basically they could continue their competition for a spot into the first week of the season without any real impact, as the loser could be sent to Buffalo.
