Found February 11, 2013 on Bush League Chronicle:
The San Francisco Giants emerged as World Series champions last season after winning four games in a row over the Detroit Tigers.Recently, a rematch of sorts transpired as two opposing players from that series went at it each other once again, but this time the competititon involved Connect 4.The spectacle occurred during an annual event for the Fresno Grizzlies, the Triple-A affiliate of the Giants, when pitchers Doug Fister (Tigers) and George Kontos (Giants) partook in a friendly rematch involving the classic game.As you can see, Kontos prevailed and hoisted the dubious cup as his prize. The Giants lay claim to the title once again and Fister is left to ponder what went wrong.Perhaps another game is in order next time around. Maybe Hungry Hungry Hippos?Via Big League Stew

SF Giants Rumors: Ryan Vogelsong, Hunter Pence, and Tim Lincecum

Credit: Steven Robles – SFGiantsBaseball.net With all the players that we had access to Friday; here are more notes from San Francisco Giants Media Day. Ryan Vogelsong believes there has to be a transition period for players to stop focusing on winning the World Series, and focus on the upcoming season. “Obviously we’re riding high from the World Series, but the one thing...

Giants Tim Lincecum Cuts His Signature Long Hair

Giants fans everywhere were in for a bit of a shock today as their star pitcher revealed that he’s chopped off his signature long locks. Lincecum is coming off a horrible year, by anyone’s standards, especially his for someone who’s won two Cy Youngs and was apart of the world series winning team. USA Today  posted the pictures of a very sleek-looking Lincecum as he reported...

2013 Top 10 Prospects: 10 Through 8

I was thinking of doing this a couple of weeks ago, but with that football Bowl thing going on, it got pushed back.  Now that it’s Spring Training time, we’ll kick off the spring with this series. For those who don’t know, I spent a decade covering the farm system of the San Francisco Giants for SFDugout.com.  Along with other writers, we watched the rise of nearly all the...

Player Profile #90: Angel Pagan | OF | SF

The San Francisco Giants decided to bring back the core of players that carried them to the 2012 World Championship. Angel Pagan was one of those players. It took Pagan a long time to finally earn a full-time job in the majors as his age-31 season in 2013 will be just his fourth full year, but don’t hold that against him. He makes living mostly with his legs and has developed a...

Detroit Tigers Spring Training: 5 Questions That Must Be Answered in Lakeland

Rick Porcello once again has to prove his worth to the Tigers. The Detroit Tigers open spring training on Tuesday, as pitchers and catchers report, with the rest of the club due in later this week. Expectations will be high in Lakeland (as well as back in Detroit), as the Tigers embark in defense of their 2012 American League title. Another summer of spending — Torii Hunter...

Player Profile #94: Pablo Sandoval | 3B | SF

Pablo Sandoval has missed significant time in each of the last two seasons, and in the year before that he was underwhelming to say the least. His 2009 campaign, his first year as a full-time starter, was easily his best as Sandoval put up top-50 numbers, and now all fantasy owners really want is a modicum of stability. I’ve always thought of Sandoval as a switch-hitting version...

Young Drew Smyly is once again trying to win the fifth starter job. (Flickr, hueytaxi) The first signs of spring subtly popped up this week, as Detroit Tigers’ pitchers and catchers began reporting to Lakeland, Florida. Leyland – I think I look pretty good until ….

Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland is already up to his old tricks and having fun with reporters. Leyland spoke with reporters this morning before the Tigers first workout. Jim who has said in the past that he will never participate on Twitter did have his own iPad propped up on his desk. So you know they had to ask him about that. “I FaceTimed with my wife this morning,”...

Justin Verlander Out of World Baseball Classic

Justin Verlander kept the door open for an appearance in the upcoming 2013 World Baseball Classic. But on Monday, about 24 hours before the Detroit Tigers’ pitchers and catchers were to report for spring training, Verlander put that notion to bed. Justin Verlander told the media this morning in Lakeland he will not participate in the WBC. #tigers — Brian Britten (@BBritten_Tigers...

Welcome back, baseball: Jim Leyland's a good quote

We're two days into "pitchers and catchers report" week 2013 and we already have two classic Jim Leyland quotes:  #Tigers Leyland on velocity of rookie closer Bruce Rondon: "I love 100 mph as much as anyone but a state trooper" — Tom Gage (@Tom_Gage) February 11, 2013  Jim Leyland today: "I Face-Timed with my wife this morning. She looked...

The 2003 Detroit Tigers

With the dawn of Spring Training, this marks the 10-year anniversary of the infamous 2003 Detroit Tigers.  The club set an American League record with 119-losses thanks to historically awful pitching. Luminaries Nate Cornejo, Mike Maroth, Jeremy Bonderman, Adam Bernero, and Gary Knotts anchored the starting rotation.  The quintet combined for a 25-77 record (128 starts)/ 744.67...
