Clay Buchholz followed Jon Lester‘s strong performance Sunday with seven shutout innings of his own Monday afternoon, which bodes well for the Red Sox’ starting staff this year.
After sputtering last season, the starters will now be under the tutelage of John Farrell in Boston, which many onlookers theorized would result in a return to form that the Sox badly needed. With John Lackey coming off Tommy John surgery and Ryan Dempster getting introduced to the mix as well, there are plenty of storylines surrounding the team’s rotation.
NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette asked our Twitter followers who they think the most important starter will be for the Sox this year. Check out what they had to say in the above video and vote for your choice in the poll below.

Clay Buchholz has become the best pitcher in the Red Sox rotation after years of disappointment
I never was a huge fan of Clay Buchholz. He started his Red Sox career with a no-hitter and every body who sort of followed the Boston Red Sox thought that they had an ace in the hole. Forget for a second that there have been plenty of middle of the road pitchers who have pitched no-hitters...
Jon Lester was the Red Sox’ Opening Day starter, and he’s considered the team’s ace in the minds of many. Clay Buchholz, the starter for Monday’s home opener, continues to match the southpaw step for step.
Buchholz tossed seven shutout innings against the Orioles on Monday. It marks the second straight outing Buchholz has gone seven innings, and he and Lester now hold a combined...
Jon Lester has gone up against two Cy Young winners to begin the season. He’s 2-0.
Yet while Lester’s Opening Day performance in the Bronx against CC Sabathia was fairly solid, Sunday’s victory over R.A. Dickey and the Blue Jays was much more impressive.
Lester never faced any trouble on Sunday, as the Red Sox’ offense gave him a five-run lead before he ever took the mound...
Daniel Nava hit a three run homer in the bottom of the seventh was all that Clay Buchholz needed as the Red Sox have won their third straight, beating the Orioles, 3-1.
It was a pitcher's duel between Buchholz and Wei-Yin Chen, as both of them only allowed a couple of singles and walks until the seventh when Dustin Pedroia started the rally with a single and Mike Napoli getting...
For those of you in search of a sneaky source of two-start pitchers for the coming week, consider your search over. This is the jackpot. Below are several pitchers available in many leagues that will help you dominate the competition for the next seven days. As the stats come in like hot cakes, just remember — you’re welcome.Clay Buchholz, BOSvs. BAL (Bruce Chen)vs. TB (Jeremy...
The Red Sox were not short on offense Sunday afternoon as they led a 13-0 rout of the Toronto Blue Jays on their home field. Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks launched three home runs in the matchup, the youngest Boston player to go deep three times in a game since Jim Rice in 1977.
That offensive power took some pressure off of starting pitcher Jon Lester, who came away with...
Sunday’s game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox was incredibly exciting — if you’re a Boston fan. The Red Sox destroyed the Jays by a score of 13-0, with Jon Lester pitching a fantastic game and Will Middlebrooks leading the way on offense with three home runs and a double.
Perhaps it was the lopsided affair that inspired one fan as the Rodgers Centre to provide...
Daniel Nava hit a three-run homer, Clay Buchholz pitched seven shutout innings and the surprising Boston Red Sox won their ninth straight home opener, 3-1 over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday.
Nava broke open a scoreless duel between Buchholz (2-0) and Wei-Yin Chen (0-1) in the seventh inning with his second homer in two days. He hit a shot over the Green Monster in left after Dustin...
The First Pitch
Paul Maholm and Clay Buchholz followed up solid season debuts with excellent second starts yesterday. They each went seven innings, allowed no runs and got a win. As a result, their ownership percentages are on the rise. But should you hop on the bandwagon and add them? Yes and no.
Yes to Maholm. He’s obviously going to give up some runs at some point, but...
The Red Sox just completed their first week of the season, a 6 game road trip starting in New York and ending in Toronto. The team went 4-2 on the trip and return to Fenway for a 7 game home stand against Baltimore and then Tampa Bay.
Wei-Yin Chen vs Clay Buchholz
Buchholz had a great outing in his first start of the season in the Bronx. He went 7 strong innings allowing...

The Red Sox did something they weren’t able to do much of last year; send the Fenway faithful home happy. In their home opener, the Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 3-1, behind a very strong outing by starter Clay Buchholz, 2-0, and a Daniel Nava 7th inning 3-run home run.
With the game scoreless in the 7th, and Buchholz done for the day, the Red Sox offense was able to get...
