Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
Billy Wagner endorsed the Mets pursuing Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez as a free agent this winter, but Wagner vowed to return to the majors. Wagner will have surgery Wednesday, with a ligament transplanted from a knee.
Wagner said he's been counted out his whole career, from being 5-foot-9 to coming from a town of 360 people to going to a Division III college.
Asked about pursuing K-Rod, Wagner said: "Well, if they didn't, I think that would be stupid, don't you? I mean, I'm not going to pitch next year. We're trying to win. Trying to play the ego thing is stupid. … I think go out there and get Frankie Rodriguez and you go out there and get whoever and win a championship. That's what we're trying to achieve here."
Wagner remained composed during his entire press conference until the last question, when he broke down crying when asked about what his children thought about the surgery.
