I had gone under the presumption that Billy Wagner wouldn't be back this season, hoping that either Luis Ayala or AL Reyes could step-up into the closers role after the in-house options of Sanchez, Feliciano, Smith and Heilman failed. But then after all of the positive reports about Wagner's progress I became optimistic about his chances of returning. All he needed was one more pain-free simulated game and he could return as early as Tuesday. Then that simulated game came today and Wagner had to shut it down after only 13 pitches. While the Mets won't call it a set back they're saying that they'll consult with the team doctor and are being cautious with their closer. I just see anyway we can expect Wagner back, we have to hope they can piece the back end of the pen together, the starters going deep into games has helped......After throwing 13 pitches between games of today's doubleheader against the Phillies at Shea Stadium, the New York Mets closer departed ...
